A Message from Marcie
Hello, South Park!
We have been extremely fortunate with cooperative weather that has allowed us to eat lunch outdoors since the start of the school year. Now that the fall weather is upon us, we need to plan to move lunch indoors.
To accomplish the task of finding indoor lunch space for all students, we will split most classes at South Park in half for their eating block. With this arrangement, half of the students will eat in the MPR while the other half of the class will eat in the classroom. This model allows us to keep our schedule exactly the same so that students have access to all of their grade-level peers during recess. Rest assured that whether your child eats lunch in the classroom or in the MPR, they will remain 6 feet apart to keep everyone safe while eating.
Classroom teachers will share your child's lunch location (classroom or MPR) with you this upcoming Monday, October 25th, and lunch will officially move indoors on Monday, November 1st.
If your child currently eats outside, please send them to school prepared for the cooler temperatures during our final week of outdoor lunch.
Please contact me with any lunch-related questions. Thank you for your support!

Annual Law Enforcement Drill - Monday 10/25
Annually, District 109 is required to participate in fire, bus evacuation, and law enforcement safety drills. The focus of the law enforcement drill is to practice a response to an active threat on campus. District 109 utilizes the ALICE model.
ALICE stands for the actions that are part of the model:
- Alert
- Lockdown
- Inform
- Counter
- Evacuate
On Monday, October 25th, in collaboration with the Deerfield Police Department, we will review the ALICE procedures with students. If you have any questions about ALICE or overall safety at South Park, please contact the Safety Committee Chair Dr. John Filippi (jfilippi@dps109.org), or Dr. Faust.

Halloween Info - Friday 10/29
Here are the details for the day.
8:45 – 1:50
Regular classes and lunchtime for grades K-5 (Dismissal for AM preschool remains at 11:30). Students should either come to school wearing their costumes or bring a costume that they can wear over their clothes that they can change into while in the classroom.
1:50 - 2:00
Students will put on costumes and prepare for the afternoon's festivities.
2:00 – 2:30
Halloween Parade - We will be parading outside, around the school. Assuming the weather continues to cooperate, we will be leaving through the gym doors, heading west on the Rosewood blacktop, north up the fire lane, east across the north blacktop, around the front circle, and back to the gym. The parade will circle back to the gym so you can see the costumes twice.
2:30 – 3:15
Classroom Parties - Students and room parents, only, please. No food is allowed at the parties. All parent volunteers who are running a party must be checked in at the office. Please bring a driver’s license for check-in.
3:15—3:25
Clean up and Dismissal.
Notes about Costumes:
- Nothing is to be worn on the face (e.g. costume masks, make-up, etc.) as this could impact the effectiveness and comfort of the required face covering.
- Please do not send students with accessories (e.g witches broom).
- Toy weapons are strictly prohibited.
- Students should either wear costumes to school all day or have the ability to change into costumes in the classroom. Students will not be permitted to change clothes in the bathrooms.
- Students should not wear group costumes as they promote the exclusion of other students.
Dogs at South Park
When you drop off or pick your child up from school or Park District after-care, unless your pet is a service animal, please be mindful of our students and keep pets to the perimeter of the campus.
Thank you for your cooperation.
