Razorback Shout Out!!

I just left the 2016 Arkansas High School Baccalaureate Service at Central Baptist Church. The house was packed and the services keep getting better and better each year. I would like to thank the people that made this service special and so nice for our soon to be graduates.

Tonya Dunphy, AHS Parent Coordinator

Andres Finley, AHS Choir and String Director

Reverend Kenneth Reid, AHS Teacher

Arkansas Women of Education (AWE)

Beech Street First Baptist Church

Central Baptist Church

Cornerstone Baptist Church

First Presbyterian Church

First United Methodist Church

Lonoke Baptist Church

Mt. Grove Baptist Church

Walker Chapel CME Church

Reverend Reid drove home the point about POTENTIAL and moved the crowd and our students. Thanks you for the great advice and for challenging AHS graduates to finish strong.

I would also like to thank the TASD Board and Administration for your continued support and guidance.

Week Before Finals.......................

Can you believe we are about to end another school year? Each year seems to go faster and faster. We have made many improvements this year and I am excited about #AHSPOTENTIAL next year. Thanks for all the work you put in each day to make our students successful. I know everyone is tired but we need to finish strong and make these last 9 days fabulous. Please help monitor the hallways between passing periods and keep students in the classrooms. Please be mindful that students that are not engaged in the classroom tend to become discipline issues. #AHSSTUDENTENGAGEMENT

Teachers please use this week to prepare your students for finals next week. Give them your review and spend time going over the information that you will be testing them over. Please don't forget to turn in a copy of your semester review, test and answer sheet to Christy Coleman on Monday. Make sure you have the names of the teachers that are giving the exam if the common assessment for a subject area. Do not allow students to test early. I have been in contact with several parents and have explained we DO NOT allow early testing. I have made arrangements with parents for students to return the first week of June to make exams up. If you have one of these students you should have been contacted with an email with explanation of testing time and to give the student an "I" (incomplete) until test are complete and graded. Administration will take care of getting the "I" changed after test are taken.

2016-2017 Professional Development

TEAM is just a fancy name for family at work. Thank you all for being such a caring family.

These are the dates we have chosen to have our PD.

July 19-21 Project Based Learning (Freshman Academy Teachers)

July 27-28 New Teacher Orientation

August 4-11 AHS PD

We have been working very hard to create a master schedule that will help us have a pure Freshman Academy again and re-direct our needs with 9th and 10th grade taking the ACT Aspire. This schedule does include some changes and I know each one of you will embrace these changes and help us move forward with doing what is best for students and in moving AHS off the PRIORITY list. If you are teaching in the Freshman Academy next year you will be implementing Project Based Learning (PBL) in your classroom and will need to attend the three day training in July. There will be some trade days in August and throughout the year. We hope to have the master complete and ready to release soon.

Again thanks for all you do!

Graduation Thursday Night, May 19th

Please remember that graduation will be Thursday evening beginning at 7:00 in Razorback Stadium. There will be a shuttle bus that will pick teachers up at the tennis courts and transport you to the stadium at 6:10 pm. Please report to the visitors side by baseball fields. If it rains the ceremony will be moved to First Baptist Church, Moore's Lane to begin at 8:00 pm. The exact time the decision to move the ceremony has not been determined at this point but will be made public as soon as possible.
