Perimeter and Area of Triangles

LET'S START WITH PERIMETER!

*Remember that perimeter is the distance AROUND a shape!

*Follow the 4 steps to find the perimeter of a triangle:
  1. Plot your points on the coordinate plane
  2. Count the distance of the two legs.
  3. Use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the hypotenuse.
  4. Add all sides.

EXAMPLE

Find the PERIMETER of the triangle using the following coordinates:

A (-4, -3)

B (2, -3)

C (2, 5)

NOW LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT AREA!

*Remember that area is the amount of space INSIDE a shape!

*Follow the 4 steps to find the area of a triangle:
  1. Plot your points on the coordinate plane
  2. Count the distance of the two legs.
  3. Multiply the two distances.
  4. Divide by two.


*Remember that units will always be squared!

EXAMPLE

Find the AREA of the triangle using the following coordinates:

A (-4, -3)

B (2, -3)

C (2, 5)
