Sheldon Update
October 3, 2022
Welcome from Mrs. Tanner
Dear Sheldon Families,
As hard as it is to believe, this Friday marks the end of the first quarter of school! Our students have learned and grown so much already. We are excited to see the progress made in the second quarter! Please note, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 10th and Tuesday, October 11th. We will welcome back our Sharks on Wednesday, October 12th.
Families of OT students, the car line is a RIGHT TURN ONLY out of our parking lot. DO NOT BLOCK intersections or driveways!

Items That Need Your Attention
Advisors Excel Coat & Shoe Event
Each year our amazing community partner, Advisors Excel, hosts a coat and shoe distribution at
Sheldon Head Start. At this event, Advisors Excel staff come set up the multi-purpose room with coats, shoes, hats, and gloves for students to "shop" from. EVERY Sheldon student will leave with these BRAND NEW items! This event is one of the best days of the year at Sheldon ~ you can literally feel the excitement and joy in the air! This year, this event will take place on Tuesday, October 4 and Thursday, October 6. Expect your child to come home with their new shoes on and their old shoes in their backpack. It might be a little warm to wear their winter coat home, but some of our friends get so excited that they insist! Join me in thanking Advisors Excel for their incredible generosity!
Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
Muffins with Mummies
Please join us for Muffins with MUMMY! We will be serving muffins for all preschool students and their moms before school. If a mom is unable to join, feel free to bring grandma, aunt, older sister, etc.
Please do not park in the bus loading zone on Munson, in the car line on Sena or in front of no parking zones/signs. Overflow parking is available at the Temple.

Picture Retakes
Sheldon's Picture RETAKE Day is coming up on October 19! If your child was absent on picture day OR you are dissatisfied with your child's portraits, you are welcome to have them retake their picture. If your child did have their picture taken in September and you are wanting retakes, you must return the original pictures you received.
The flyer below provides details on the different packages that are available for order. You may order online, or pay by cash or check. If paying by cash, you must provide the EXACT amount. We will not be able to make change. If paying by check, please make the check out to Strawbridge Studios. Paying online is the easiest! We will collect orders and payments at the school beginning October 10 and ending on picture day, October 19.

Policy & Procedure Review
Lice Control
Each week the Sheldon staff reviews one of our Head Start Policies & Procedures and felt it was important that families stay up to date on these as well. This quarter our focus is on Health & Safety, and Nutrition. If you ever have any questions regarding our policies and procedures, please reach out!
Lice Control
POLICY:
To prevent the spread of head lice, children found to have live lice will be sent home and may only return to the classroom when they have received treatment and are lice free. This policy relates to Head Start Performance Standards 45 CFR Part 1302.47
PROCEDURE:
1. Parents will be informed during enrollment that head lice screening will be conducted throughout the school year, if suspected the child has head lice.
2. If a child is found to have live lice, the parent(s) or an emergency contact person will be called and will be encouraged to come and take the child home to begin treatment as soon as possible.
3. Parents will be given information on the most current and safest treatment of head lice. Families will be provided with one round of treatment. Children will not be able to return to school unless they are lice free.
4. Staff will stress the importance of following the recommended guidelines for treatment of lice. Any parent concerns or requests will be addressed and the staff will share the potential consequences for continued, untreated cases of lice (i.e. child missing school and activities with classmates, potential charges of neglect, etc.). Discussion with parents will be documented under Health Notes.
