Backpack Food Program
Making sure all of our students do not go hungry!
Backpack Program Details
Through conversations with staff and parents, the school's principal or counselor will determine if there is a student in need of support. After making that decision, the principal will refer the student and parents contact information to the Swartz Creek's Director of Child and Community Development to review for participation in the Backpack Program.
After being accepted and resources are obtained to support the student's participation, a representative of Community Education will contact the parents of the student and the school to set up to the coordination of the backpack pick-up and return. The student will be given a backpack of food every Friday at their school that will contain food items for one weekend of meals. The student will return the empty backpacks to their school’s main office on the following Monday, so that their backpack may again be filled with food for the next Friday’s backpack pick-up.
*Important Note: To participate in the Backpack Foods Program, parents must contact the principal or counselor of their school. Do to the amount of money and resources, acceptance into the program is not guaranteed and is determined on a case-by-case basis.
