Congratulations to Standing Bear's Golden Sower team

They competed against 51 other teams from around the district in the Golden Sower Reading Challenge and earned GOLD medals. It is a well-deserved honor for these students. They were committed to reading the Golden Sower books and preparing for the competition both in-person and remotely. Their hard-work and determination paid off!

Way to go Liam Campbell, Caden Cronick, Marissa Earlywine, and Michaela Molden! We are proud of you and your accomplishment!

Important announcement from our PTO

We are looking for a volunteer to join the PTO Board as Treasurer. Anyone with accounting experience would be a definite asset to our board.

We are also looking for parents wanting to be involved as committee chairs for next year's activities. We're hoping for a more normal school year, so want to plan for a full range of activities. We will definitely need help with activities such as Bowling Night, Movie Night, the Carnival, Mathnasium Night, Book Fairs, Family Fun Nights, and restaurant fundraiser events.

These volunteer opportunities may not require as much of a time commitment but would still make a huge impact for our staff and students.

Thank you!

* If you are interested in volunteering some of your time to the PTO next year, please provide us with your contact information using the link below.

Enrollment Deadlines for Next Level Learning 2021 is April 2, 2021

If you already enrolled your student using the provided link earlier, you are guaranteed a spot for summer school. If you did not yet enroll and have decided you want to sign up, please call the main front office TODAY. If you need to verify your student's enrollment please call the main front office at 531-299-2140.

REMOTE STUDENTS ONLY (Testing information)

Dear Families of Remote Learners,

We hope this message finds you well. We are preparing to offer the NSCAS test for all students in grades 3 – 4. It is our goal to provide every student the opportunity to participate in these state assessments with health and safety at the forefront.

Enhanced cleaning measures, regular disinfecting of high-touch surfaces, frequent handwashing and hand sanitizer use, social distancing measures when possible, limiting transitions, adapting meal procedures and the use of district-provided face coverings are all part of our comprehensive effort to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Our NSCAS testing plan for remote learning students is as follows:

Math – Wednesday, April 14th at 1:30 or Friday, April 16th at 9:00

Reading – Wednesday, April 21st at or Friday, April 23rd at 9:00

Testing will take place in our cafeteria. Students will be placed at separate tables. Students will take the test on their district issued iPads.

We understand that, for different reasons, families have decided that remote learning is best for their student during this time. The Nebraska Department of Education has determined that all students should receive an invitation to participate, though these yearly assessments cannot be offered remotely.

If you have any questions or would like additional information about the steps we have taken for remote learners who wish to take the NSCAS assessment on-site, please contact Russell Nelsen at Standing Bear Elementary.

Please fill out the survey attached below for each remote student individually. Again, this only applies to students in grades 3 or 4. If you do not wish for them to take the test at Standing Bear, please choose the "No Test" option. We ask that you complete the survey by April 12th.

Use the Microsoft Forms link below to register for MAP testing

Student Placement for 2021-22 School Year

As a staff, we will be working on sorting students for next year sometime in April. This is a very detailed and specific process to make sure classrooms are balanced and students are placed according to their strengths and needs. Therefore, I will not be taking requests for specific teachers for next year. You definitely know your child the best, so if there is a situation, concern, type of teacher, etc you feel your child would benefit from, please send me an email with that information. We will place them to the best of our ability and take into consideration your email.

I appreciate you trusting us that we will place your child in the best possible classroom. Fortunately, the staff at Standing Bear are all high quality instructional leaders and caring teachers. If you wish to send an email to me regarding next year, please send that before the end of March so we can have that information when we start the sorting process.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Important Information from Standing Bear

Building Security

For the safety and security of our students and this building, we will not be allowing visitors into the building at this time.

Drop Off Zone

We ask that you please continue to pull all the way down to the second crosswalk if possible (by main front doors). We can then unload around 10 vehicles rather than 5.

We currently have a school staff member assisting your child to breakfast or the classroom at the main doorway for all student’s morning arrival. REMINDER: School doors don’t open until 8:35 AM for classroom entrance and breakfast opening hours.

We ask again not arrive for end of school day pick-up until 3:45pm due to traffic flow congestion issues we’re currently experiencing due to early arrivals.

Please be attentive and cognizant of all school crossing guard officials and adhere to their requests during student morning drop-off and pick-up times. Our goal is to ensure your child’s overall safety.

School Messenger

We will be using the School Messenger (Robo call or email) to communicate this year. Please make sure to contact the office if you need to update your contact information.

Birthday Celebrations

Due to COVID-19, we will not allow any outside items brought nto the building. We will continue to highlight students and have them feel special on this day!
