William Harvey
Harvey was born in 1578 in Folkestone, Kent,England. He studied in Italy to become a physician. He proved that blood does not pass through the heart's septum and he explain the function of the valves in the heart and larger veins.
Important Things
Harvey married Elizabeth Browne, daughter of a physician to Queen Elizabeth I. From dissecting many creatures, including humans, he discovered the nature of blood circulation.
His Memories
He became physician to King James I, he wrote a book called On The Motion Of The Heart And Blood Animals. The book made Harvey famous in Europe despite the initial attacks on it.
Why he is important today?
He is very important because his work with the heart and circulatory system. Has helped us create new medicine, new surgeries and create pacemakers (which regulate the heart's patterns). All of this has saved many people from dying from heart related issues.
