Coweta Committed to Student Success
Our vision is to ensure the success of each student
We believe, as a learning community, we must continuously improve.
We believe, as leaders of learners, we must see students as volunteers in their learning.
We believe the Coweta County School System, in partnership with the family and the community, must focus on providing challenging, interesting and satisfying work for students.
We believe we are responsible for the success of each student.

Thank you for your generous support of our Mixed Bags fundraiser. We have used our profits to purchase stencils for the playground (hop scotch, USA map, and basketball courts) and order 10 additional mini iPads for our classrooms.

A HUGE thank you to our PTSO for their purchase of an 30 additional mini iPads with funds left over from our Arts Now Initiaitve this year. This means each classroom received 2 mini Ipads this school year and as a result, all regular education classrooms will have at least four mini Ipads.

Spotlight on Instruction

Transforming Learning Through Arts Integration

What is arts integration?

Arts integration is instruction that integrates content and skills from the arts—dance, music, theater, and the visual arts—with other core subjects. Arts integration occurs when there is a seamless blending of the content and skills of an art form with those of a co-curricular subject.

Why do it?

  • Arts integration is highly effective in engaging and motivating students. It supports the academic achievement and improved social behavior of students while enhancing school climate and parental involvement.
  • A rich array of arts skills and intellectual processes provide multiple entry points for students to approach content in other subject areas, while the arts instruction is likewise deepened through integration of content from the other subject areas. The arts provide students multiple modes for demonstrating learning and competency.
  • It enlivens the teaching and learning experience for entire school communities. At its best, arts integration is transformative for students, teachers, and communities. The imaginations and creative capacities of teachers and students are nurtured and their aspirations afforded many avenues for realization and recognition.

Solar Storm of 2015 Meets 1939 War of the Worlds in Ms. Ferrell's Fifth Grade

What will happen when the storm hits? We listened to parts of Orson Welles' War of the Worlds and discussed the new technologies of the late 1930s. We then we researched the Solar Storm of 2015. The sqworl link below contains the articles we read and videos that we watched. After completing a science experiment where we made our own auroras (video below), students were asked to create their own 2015 Solar Storm War of the Worlds broadcast! They were encouraged to use descriptive language, figurative language, and different tones, inflections, and pitch in their voices when recording. Some of these recordings are pretty intense! I'm glad that it's just a radio broadcast! We definitely may have some radio personalities on our hands! :)
