Mr. Chacon
Hola! I am Mr. Chacon, originally from Andalusia Spain, and this is my first year at Lakewood Elementary. I will be teaching 4th grade Two-Way Dual Language. I have taught for 14 years: four in New York City and ten here in Dallas. I was honored as campus teacher of the year twice and I also received the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce teacher of the year award.
Outside school, I like to spend time with my family, cultivate plants, and ride my motorcycle. I have a toddler, Camila, and a five-year-old, Mateo, who just started kindergarten. Watching how my own children are growing up bilingual gives me an insight into language acquisition and the importance of bilingualism.

Reading & Writing
We will begin the year with Inside out and Back Again, which is historical fiction written in poetic style. Your child will have a reading log / genre challenge folder and we will be encouraging children to read different genres throughout the year. We hope that your child will be reading at home, and that you are reading with them as you are able. Fourth graders do a good bit of writing across the curriculum in fourth grade and we're excited to see them grow as writers this year!
Social Studies
We will begin this year talking about the U.S. Constitution and how it impacted the United States. The kids will work in small groups to then come up with our class constitutions by sections. This is a fun activity for them to work together to help create a list of rules and procedures that we will continue to follow throughout the school year!
