News from our Admin Team
Hello Families,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful break with your families and friends. We look forward to what 2024 has in store for us at Spring Ridge! A few nuts and bolts:
- Please make sure you child has a coat each day for school. It can be very cold outside for recess.
- Please continue to review with your child/children that putting hands or feet on others is not a safe choice here at school and consequences will be administered.
- Congratulaions to Jocelyn Cooper! She is our 2023-2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Award Recepient. She will be recognized this evening at the annual celebration at TJ High School. We are so proud of you and your great character.
- Please do not allow your child to bring toys from home. This includes Pokemon cards, fidgets, and small toys. We are seeing an increase in these items being brought to school and we do not want anything misplaced or broken. This also includes sports equipment like footballs and basketballs. We have these items here at school that students can use during recess. These personal items can cause a distraction and we can not replace or return them if misplaced or broken.
- We do have some sad, but exciting news. Mrs. Bradshaw-Kneller has taken a job at Walkersville High School starting on 1/16/24. We will miss her, but wish her the best of luck. Please see her note to all of you below. We will keep you updated in our search for a new media specialist.
As you read above, I will be moving schools to pursue a lifelong career goal of mine. SRES has meant the world to me, and I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing your students grow and learn throughout my time here. The current 5th grade class were 1st graders when I started, and the current 4th grade class were in Kindergarten! I’ve even seen some of our current 3rd graders start in PK when I first arrived. I will truly miss all of the families and students here at SRES, and cannot wait to see the amazing things that your students achieve throughout the years.
Thank you so much for everything, and I encourage your students to use Schoology to message me if they would like to keep in touch. Roos Rock!
- Your child's teacher should have sent home a letter this week about "learn from home days". These days will be for snow storms that we know of well in advance. If you missed the communication from your child's teacher, it is linked below. There is a form for students in grades 3-5 that needs to be filled out by parents. If you can do that, ASAP, it would be appreciated. It is linked in the letter below.
Yours in Education,
Mr. Bowser and Mrs. Copen
Inclement Weather
Occasionally, schools may be closed all day, delayed in opening, or close early because of inclement weather. A variety of communication modes are used to announce these closings and/or delays. The most detailed and current information is available on Frederick Cable Channel 18. Information is also provided on several radio stations. These can be found in the Calendar Handbook. You can also receive email notification by registering at Find out First on www.fcps.org.
Reminders!!
Please do not forget if your child is sent home from school with a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea they should not return until 24 hours AFTER those symptoms stop.
Also, our Front Office and Health Room are no longer providing masks. The surplus of masks that were available have been used up. Please provide masks for your students if you prefer they wear them.
It is the season where student clothing can get wet or muddy! For students PK - 1st grade; please make sure your child/ren have a change of clothing in their backpack. It is advisable for students in Grades 2-5 to have a change of clothing available in their backpacks also.

Counselors Corner
Hey Roos,
We hope everyone had a restful break and are ready to tackle these next few months! Mrs. Hanko and Mr. Drews will be going into classrooms over January and February to teach about kindness. This will lead up to our Kindness Night and Kindness Spirit Week (more info to come).
Also, did you know that January is National Mental Wellness Month? Encourage your child to take some time this month for some self-care and do something they enjoy! Adults, this goes for us, too! It can be as simple as reading a book, spending time with friends and family, jamming out to your favorite song, or anything else that brings you joy. With the beginning of the new year, January is a great time to reflect, reset, and create goals for the upcoming year - goals should also include some self-care!
Until next time,
The SRES Counseling Team
You can also call or visit the Frederick Mental Health Association's Walk-In Clinic 24/7. Please see the fliers below for more information.
