Social Contract
Teachers,
Going over processes, procedures and social contract's is a great way to start the second half of the school year. We now know the needs of our classroom, and we know the culture we want to create. The Social Contract is a great way to address these things. Let's be intentional about what is written on it, when we refer to it and how we keep it alive in our classrooms. Please look over your social contracts and make any necessary changes, i.e. add phrases, words, pictures, signatures, etc. If your social contract was not done correctly, when you welcome your students is a great way to redo and reintroduce.
Please see below for a few tips.
If you have any questions please see your fellow Process Champion (there is one in each POD). RED and Purple POD can see Mrs. Reyes for questions.
Building a Social Contract
· The social contract does not take the place of consequences or procedures. Classroom procedures need to be outlined and taught separately.
· Ownership is very important for the success of the social contract.
· The leaders must “sell” the contract with confidence and enthusiasm.
· Use key words or phrases, write large enough to be seen from across the room.
· Every time a word or phrase is duplicated, use a check mark (don’t number responses)
Implementation of Social Contract
· Visit the contract weekly
· You can tie rewards to the contract as well as consequences
· The contract is only as effective as you are serious about modeling it…. How can myself and my para be intentional about modeling our contract especially the areas that my students have difficulty with.
