The Lundy Pulse
Week of January 29th
Message from the Principal
This Wednesday marks our 100th day of school! Students are encouraged to dress up like they are 100 years old or wear a shirt with 100 of something on it. Also occurring this week are class pictures on Tuesday morning and our next ROAR store during recess on Friday. Our Scholastic Book Fair opens on Friday and runs through February 9th. We are looking for volunteers to help run it!
In other news, we wish Ms. Bridges, one of our school counselors, a happy retirement. Wednesday is her last day. She has served EPISD for 33 years! Ms. Flores, our interim AP, has her last day at Lundy on Wednesday as well. We thank both of these hard working leaders for all of their dedication to our Mountain Lions and wish them the best moving forward.
As School Board Recognition Month comes to a close, I want to take a moment to thank all of our EPISD School Board Members, who do far more and work way harder than most people realize to support our students and move the district forward. A special thank you to Board Member, Mrs. Beals, who represents our Feeder Pattern, but is also a Lundy parent! Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication!
100th Day of School
Our 100th day of school is Wednesday, January 31st. We encourage students to dress up like they are 100 years old OR wear a shirt with 100 things on it. Some grade levels will have some fun activities prepared centered around the number 100.
Help Needed
The Scholastic Book Fair will run from Friday, February 2nd through Friday, February 9th (6 school days), before school, during recess, and after lunch.
We are looking for volunteers to help. Click here to sign up to help: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0A4CA5AD2BA1F85-47326282-book#/
Remember you can set up an eWallet for your child so they can shop cash free. Click here to set up eWallet: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/lundyelementaryschool
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Our next round of conferences is Tuesday, February 6th from 1:10-6:10 pm. You should have received a sign up link from your child's teacher last week, but if you did not, please reach out right away.
We are asking students to attend their conference. As a small incentive, any student who attends the conference can wear pajamas, a hat, or bring a stuffy to school the next day, Wednesday, February 7th.
ROAR Store
Our next ROAR store will be February 2nd during recess periods on the blacktop.
As a reminder, to reinforce our schoolwide ROAR expectations, staff began giving out Paw-sitive Bucks in December to students exemplifying being Respectful, Responsible, Open-Hearted or Responsible. These are an "in the moment" reinforcement and don't necessarily replace other "end of the day reinforcement systems" teachers have in class already. We have explained to students that they cannot ask for one or shouldn't expect to get one each time they are doing what they are supposed to. They are more like "caught being good" or "caught ROARing" kind of reinforcement.
Spring Testing Dates
Please schedule appointments around these dates
Grade Level Attendance: 1/22 - 1/26
Congrats to 4th grade for having the highest attendance rate
Note: PreK attendance is not reported on this district graphic
Student Attendance Incentives
- Grade level: a grade level earns an attendance block for each day it has 96% or higher attendance. Ten blocks equals 10 extra minutes of recess and then the grade level starts over again to earn another 10 blocks.
- Individual class: for each day that a homeroom class has perfect attendance, the teacher adds the next letter from the phrase "Perfect Attendance." Once the phrase is completed, the teacher and students get an incentive that is preapproved by administration.
- Individual student: at the end of each grading period, Lundy staff will go around with “attendance cart” to give out prizes and certificates for perfect attendance for nine weeks. Perfect attendance is defined by no tardies, absences, or left early (excused or unexcused of any kind). There will also be Faithful Attendance awards given mid year and end of year for students with a certain of excused absences and less.
Reminders
Inclement Weather for Dismissal
Some information about future inclement weather dismissals.
We don't usually call inclement weather dismissal until around 3 pm. At that time we will let parents know the information below as well via Class Dojo and email/call out. Please note some very important changes to ensure the safety and whereabouts of all children.
Parents parking/walking to pick up PK-1st graders need to line up outside the main gym doors (glass doors), not the side door. Parents walking to pick up 2nd-5th graders by flagpole will give their child’s name to a staff member outside for us to radio to get them from the cafeteria.
If your student walks home on the trail or another way, they will not be released outside unless you contact your child’s teacher directly through Class Dojo to let them know on that given day they have permission to walk home in the inclement weather.
Morning Drop Off
Just a reminder that if you are dropping of your child(ren) in the car loop in the morning, please do not wait for a staff member to open the car door. If your child is old enough to open the door and get out on his/her own, please let him/her do that. That will allow our staff to focus more on getting out our littlest Mountain Lions who truly need the assistance. Remember that for safety reasons, parents cannot get out of their vehicle in the drop off line, especially on the driver's side. We will continue to open as many doors as we can, but again, we want to focus on the little ones who need the most assistance.
