MATH
We made it through the first two weeks!
Course 2 students will continue Chapter 1 on Ratios and Proportional Reasoning. This week the focus will be on complex fractions and unit rates as well as converting unit rates.
In Accelerated 7, students will attempt to complete three lessons in the coming week. We will tackle words and expressions, variables and expressions, and properties of numbers.
Looking forward to a great week after the holiday weekend!

SOCIAL STUDIES
Next week we will continue to learn about the first Americans. We will finish reading chapter 1, and begin gathering evidence to answer our essential question, “How did the first Americans adapt to their environment?” We will also begin reviewing for the Chapter 1 test.
SCIENCE
Last week many students were surprised to learn about all the different types of scientists. From naturalists and chemists to neuroscientists and even lepidopterists (they study butterflies), the amount of professions in the science field is impressive to say the least. After getting introduced to the concept of a science notebook last week, students will start using them this week. As all good scientists, they will be keeping a science notebook (composition book) that will be used every day for notes, lab observations, and their own ideas/questions regarding what they are learning.
The focus of 7th grade science is living systems and there is no better way to start then by determining what characteristics something has to have to be considered living. That question will be our focus this week with students trying to figure out the answer themselves before class discussion on what characteristics true scientists use to make that determination.
Students will also finish their FOCUS goals this week. I will be holding onto the goal sheets and redistributing them throughout the year for students to re-evaluate how they are doing and make adjustments as needed.
