Hello Fellow Falcons and Happy Friday!
It has been a great week for us as we welcomed back our preschool and eighth-grade students. Our students, teachers, and families did a fabulous job pivoting from in-person to remote learning during this two-week quarantine. Thank you for your support.
Report cards were distributed yesterday to our in-person learners. Our eLearning report cards were mailed out today. If you have not done so already, please check your child's backpack for their report card. No need to sign and return the report card and envelope to school this year, please keep it for your records. Feel free to reach out to your child's teacher should you have any questions or concerns about their grades.
First trimester conferences are mandatory for each family. Please sign-up for your child's conference using the links posted in the conference section.
Please mark your calendars...
We are going to have a calendar addition in the month of January. Monday, January 4, will be an instructional planning day for our teachers to prepare for the mandatory two weeks of remote learning following Christmas. This will be a non-attendance day for students. Our mandatory remote learning period begins on January 5 and ends on January 15. We will welcome students back into our building for in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 19, after MLK Jr. day on the 18. During this time of quarantine, we will not be offering EDP. Our EDP staff will also be home quarantining after the break.
Coins for a Cause raised $158 for Oasis for Orphans. Thank you to all who participated in our non-uniform day to raise money for this cause.
The book fair was a success. Thank you to Mrs. Dulen and her volunteers for safely providing this opportunity for our children.
As we get closer to the holiday season please consider reviewing the IDPH or CDC guidelines about holiday gatherings and the best way to keep people safe this holiday season. IDPH COVID-19 Holiday Season Safety Tips or CDC COVID-19 Holiday Celebrations.
Also, please keep those families in your prayers who are dealing with the effects of COVID and/or who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.
May God continue to bestow his blessings upon us all.
Peace and joy,
COVID-19 Response Topics
● Parents should notify school immediately if:
○ Student isn’t feeling well
○ Student is going to have a COVID test
■ Student test results (positive and negative)
○ Student or family member in household has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive
○ Someone in the household has tested positive
● School gathers information to file report with the OCS Nursing staff
○ When was the student last in school
○ Who were they with?
● School files report within 4 hours of notification
● OCS Nursing staff follow up to provide the following possible items:
○ Individual Quarantine information
○ Close Contact and Casual Contact communications
○ Health Department tracing report
● Only after the OCS Nursing staff provide their report does the school send out communication either close contact or casual contact. This can take some time, so if families or students choose to share their information with others prior to the school reports being completed, there is a lag in school communication.
● Through contract tracing and reporting there is a possibility that families are not notified if the individual hasn’t been at school for a number of days, so again if individuals share their personal information, there may be a void of communication for the school because it isn’t warranted.
● If your student is sent home because of a close contact, they should be monitored and avoid all public gatherings during that close contact quarantine period. I know this is difficult as they may feel fine and have no symptoms, but during this time they could be developing a viral load and become symptomatic within that window and then would have exposed people.
Holiday Shop: We are still able to do the Holiday Shop this year! A preview of gift items can be found online. Starting November 16-29th students will be able to preview gift items online and still purchase in-person. The in-person shop will be from November 30-December 11. One cohort will go per day in order to keep everyone safe. A list of class times will be sent out once those details have been finalized. You can also do virtual shopping this year if preferred. Virtual shopping will also be from November 30-December 11. You can preview and shop from home at https://5541410.holidaytreasures.com. If you purchase online, arrangements will be made through the school to get your items to you. See the attached flyer for more details!
Fun Pasta Fundraiser: Fun Pasta is healthy pasta shaped like the holidays, sports, collegiate team logos, and more. There are also Gluten-Free options. St. Bede will earn 40-50% profit for every order that is placed! All you have to do is download the fun pasta app. Ordering online is super easy! See the attached flyer for more information! We have raised over $100.00 so far! Get your pasta orders in before it’s too late! Fun Pasta sales will end on December 3rd.
Box Tops Contest: We are still collecting box tops online or clipped until further notice!! For every box top that is turned in, the school earns 10 cents! Remember, if we can raise $200.00, Mrs. Rybarczyk will dye her hair blue! We have $143.80 raised so far! We can still meet our goal with your help!!!
Book Fair is here November 6-12th. Shop with us on November 16-20! You can pay with e-wallet. One cohort will shop per day.
Bake Sale: Grades K, 3, 8….Due to the events of this year, we are unable to hold a traditional bake sale. In an effort to support the bake sale fundraiser, we are asking each family to send in $15.00. This money will go towards the end of the year picnic and 8th-grade festivities. The bake sale committee will sponsor an end of the year event for the students in appreciation for your help!
We have compiled a cookbook with recipes from St. Bede families! Order forms for the cookbooks have been sent home. We have a limited quantity and will be given out first-come, first-serve. They are $20.00 for 1 and $35.00 for 2. We have 90 cookbooks left! Be sure to get yours soon!! They will make a great holiday gift!
If you need a break from cooking, Maravelas has said that they will give any St. Bede family 10% off of their entire bill through the end of December. You just have to let them know you are from St. Bede when you call-in your order! Let’s continue to support our local businesses!
Giving Tree: This year the giving tree will look a little different. We will be collecting gift cards only this year. Gift cards will be collected at masses from November 21-December 6 at both the St. Bede and St. Peter sites. Put the gift card in an envelope labeled with the organization’s name and place in the collection basket. Gift cards can also be sent to the St. Bede School office in an envelope labeled "Giving Tree" with the name(s) of the "organization" that were selected to receive our donations this year. These organizations are listed on the flyer below. See the attached flyer for more detailed information.
Our next PA meeting will be held on December 9th at 6:30 pm. Please email Nikki Brooks at brooks-nicole@ att.net if you would like to attend via Zoom. All are welcome!

St. Bede School Spelling Bee
The School Spelling Bee is fast approaching! For the safety of all of the students, we will not be able to participate in the Scripts National Spelling Bee this school year, but we are keeping the Spelling Bee contest tradition here at St. Bede. Two classroom winners from each grade will compete in a virtual School Spelling Bee for the title of St. Bede Spelling Champion. This School Spelling Bee will take place on Wednesday, February 3rd during Catholic Schools' Week. Good luck spellers! Be on the lookout for more information to come...
Faithful citizenship is key. We expect our families to take personal responsibility for the common good as well as their own safety. We rely on parents to keep children home when they are sick. Sometimes it is hard to tell in the morning if a child is truly ill or just having a hard time waking up. Please err on the side of caution during this time. Children should not come to school if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
Fever or chills
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Muscle or body aches
New loss of taste or smell
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
It is important that you contact your doctor and follow the advice of a trained medical professional before returning to school. Please do not administer fever-reducing, cough, or stomach settling medicine and send sick students to school. While it may be an unexpected inconvenience for you in the morning, we believe this is a much better alternative than having to close the entire school because of an outbreak. You are instrumental in helping us to control COVID-19. Please let your employer know of our policy in advance. We need your cooperation now more than ever.
Thank you to those families who were extra cautious this week!! Your support means the world to us!
