The Twice Exceptional Student

Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV

Gifted Professional Development Series

The 2nd professional development workshop in the Gifted Professional Development Series.

The Twice Exceptional Student

Friday, Dec. 4th, 9am-3pm

453 Maple Street

Grove City, PA

Students who are twice-exceptional are identified as gifted and one or more disabilities. They are often excluded from gifted programming when they fail to meet general classroom expectations. As a result, these students become at-risk for school failure because of their inconsistent performance. Participants in this workshop will learn about the twice-exceptional student, how their learning disability can mask their giftedness, and how their giftedness can suppress their learning disability. Implementing differentiation for elementary and adolescent students, identifying instructional strategies, and applying classroom accommodations will be explored.

It is suggested that a classroom teacher, special education teacher and/or gifted teacher attend together.

This workshop session will focus on the application of the four Domains of Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching.
