Spark Online Academy
Family Newsletter - November 8, 2021
Message from Mrs. Johnson
Greetings, Spark Online Community!
We are off to a strong start in quarter two. We heard from many students and families who were appreciative of providing support for students to reflect on, advocate and set goals for their learning. We also heard how helpful it is for parents and guardians to support their students when they know the goals their students have set for themselves.
Please join us in welcoming Mr. Ryan Sebastian to Spark Online Academy! Mr. Sebastian will be serving as our Kindergarten through eighth-grade Computer Science teacher. Students will now have Music, Art, P.E., and Computer Science as part of their Essentials class rotations.
Our 3rd round of Spark Hour is coming soon! We're excited about some new offerings and returning some favorite offerings for Spark Hour. Students will learn about the next round and make their choice this week, and then the first session of round three will be November 17.

Veteran's Day
Spark Online will honor America's veterans during our school day for their service and sacrifice. Students will be engaging in a variety of activities in our classrooms to honor our military service members. Our 1st through 4th-grade classes are pleased to welcome Jim Mason as a guest speaker. Jim Mason has served on the Colorado Springs School District 11 Board of Education from 2017 to 2021. His distinguished 30-year military career culminated with retirement at the rank of Colonel. His service included worldwide troop assignments with Infantry units that encompassed command and staff duties. Colonel Mason will talk about the importance of expressing yourself, character, and perseverance.
Spark Online extends our gratitude to our military service members for their sacrifices and service to our country. We appreciate you, and thank you!
Spark Online Academy Showcase of Learning - December 10, 2021
Our K-8 students are currently engaged in a schoolwide theme of communities and systems in our inquiry explorations. As you hear from our students in December, you will have the privilege of hearing our littlest learners up through our adolescents in middle school share their learning within the theme of expression.
