Stop Animal Testing!
They Don't Know the Answer
The Price of Extinguishing Animal Testing
Each year, approximately 25 million animals are being used for scientific research in the United States alone. Animals are blinded, poisoned and even killed just to test the daily products we use such as cosmetics, personal care products, cleaning supplies and even fruit juices. These test are not required by law and often lead to misleading results. "Fortunately, scientists have developed sophisticated product tests that are faster, cheaper, and far more accurate than blinding and poisoning tests, which were developed in the 1920s. Human cell cultures and tissue studies (in vitro tests) and artificial human “skin” and “eyes” mimic the body’s natural properties, and a number of computer virtual organs serve as accurate models of human body parts" (peta.org). So, there are elternative ways to test products without hurting animals in the process.
Animal Testing is Bad Science
Animal experimenters want us to believe that if we abolish their obsolete habit, than sick children and people dying from diseases will suddenly drop dead. Recently, researchers have found that animals rarely serve as good models for humans. Studies show that animal testing is wasting animal lives by injecting these animals with diseases that they wouldn't normally contract."Animals are very different from human beings and therefore make poor test subjects. The anatomic, metabolic, and cellular differences between animals and people make animals poor models for human beings. [52] Paul Furlong, Professor of Clinical Neuroimaging at Aston University (UK), states that "it's very hard to create an animal model that even equates closely to what we're trying to achieve in the human." (animal-testing). Also, "Drugs that pass animal tests are not necessarily safe. The 1950s sleeping pill thalidomide, which caused 10,000 babies to be born with severe deformities, was tested on animals prior to its commercial release. [5] Later tests on pregnant mice, rats, guinea pigs, cats, and hamsters did not result in birth defects unless the drug was administered at extremely high doses. [109, 110] Animal tests on the arthritis drug Vioxx showed that it had a protective effect on the hearts of mice, yet the drug went on to cause more than 27,000 heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths before being pulled from the market." Fast Facts about Animal Testing
Fact # 1
"Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year."
Fact #2
"Labs that use mice, rats, birds, reptiles and amphibians are exempted from the minimal protections under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA)."
Fact #3
"In tests of potential carcinogens, subjects are given a substance every day for 2 years. Others tests involve killing pregnant animals and testing their fetuses."
