Reader's Workshop

This week we will be continuing our study of Biographies. We will be looking at the climax in a subject's life and think about the key events that led up to that climax. We will also be looking at the results of the climax and the feelings that are felt because of this. Finally, we will be thinking about the authenticity of a biography and how that influences the opinions of its readers.

Writer's Workshop

This week we will be continuing to work on writing biographies! We will be describing a subject's important decisions and turning points in his/her life. We will be learning about creating fictionalized dialogue that could possibly have happened based on the facts that are known about a subject's life. We will also be working to keep the subject's life events in chronological order, unless using a flashback or flashforward as a writing technique,

Word Study

We are continuing our Word Study work from last week...

This week, the students in the first group will be focusing on English words that come from other languages. These words will include words such as ballet, bouquet, plaza, and sauerkraut.

The second group will be working with acronyms. They will be working on acronyms such as SCUBA - Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus

We will also be...

studying the poem "Words as Free As Confetti" by Pat Mora

Math

The rest of the year will be spent working at each student's individual pace to review skills that we have been working on this school year. Skills will included dividing fractions, dividing decimals, multiplying fractions, multiplying decimals, finding area and perimeter of complex figures, and many other skills. This will be a time for each student to practice what he/she needs!
