HarrisSymbol
A symbol representing for Dill, would be a puppy. Puppies are full of life and curiosity. Dill provides excitement and adventure to the boring life of Jem and Scout. Unfortunately, puppies tend to bury and hide secrets. Dill's family didn't have the fortunate life of good parenting like Jem and Scout. Dill has been moved around from family members to others. He tries to cover up his misfortune by being full of life and energetic. He is a lonely child without "anywhere to run off to" (Lee 150). That quote is said by Atticus, because I think that this shows that Atticus thinks that Dill without anybody. It shows that he doesn't have any place to call home.
Traits
Innocent-
Dill breaks down in the trial of Tom Robinson because he believed the prosecutor was being prejudiced towards Tom. His idea of people still wasn't experienced and he still saw things in childish ways. His ideas weren't influenced by other people and it was his emotions that came from his heart. He is childish because he didn't understand that , that was how the world works. During the trial dill breaks out into tears "For some reason Dill had started crying and couldn't stop; ....then his sobs were heard by several people" (Lee 225) This clearly showed that Dill was still innocent at heart and that he didn't completely understand many things yet. Other grown folks who understood what was happening didn't react like Dill, so it shows that Dill is young at heart.
Adventurous- Dill is an adventurous boy because he's curious to explore. Without him, Jem and Scout wouldn't have been as adventurous as they are. Dill brought everyone together with his love for exploring and his braveness. In chapter one dill says "'Lets try to make him come out, I'd like to see what he looks like"' (Lee 14). This shows that dill was really brave and adventurous to bring Boo Radley out of the house. It shows that Dill wasn't afraid of finding things out and exploring beyond, even if it meant a little danger. Without Dill's adventurous trait, the story of the children wouldn't have been there because Dill brought the exploring to Maycomb.
Color
White - innocence
The color white symbolize innocence and immature. At Tom Robinson's trial, while Scout accepts Mr. Gilmer's rude treatment of Tom, Dill starts crying uncontrollably when he sees Tom being treated so differently from the White witnesses. In page 225, "For some reason Dill started crying and couldn't stop...". This event shows that he is very innocent, and immature. He represents the perspective of childhood. (Lee 225)
Connection
Dill Harris is very interested in the reveal of Boo Radley. He wants to push on and go as far as possible to figure out the secret of him. As we can tell throughout the book the author foreshadowed the grand reveal of him. For example Dill says "Let's try to make him come out, I'd like to see what he looks like". Lee, Harper. "6." He fears him so much that he's curious about finding his identity and seeking the entity that lies inside The Radley's place. (Lee 9)
