Fryelands Falcon Flyer

September 16, 2021

From the Principal:

Dear Fryelands Families,

Welcome to Fryelands Elementary School.

We have all of our students at school this week, including our Transitional Kindergarten class, with 4 year olds, and our three Kindergarten classes of 5 year olds. It is so wonderful to have all of our students here at Fryelands every day, all day.

Stamina and Routines

  • We are slowly building our stamina with being at school all day, every day

  • To build stamina we need to make sure our children are getting to sleep early and at the same time each night.

  • Children ages 3-11 need between 10-12 hours of sleep

  • To build stamina they need to eat breakfast

  • Breakfast is FREE for every student, every day in our district; breakfast starts at 8:35am

  • Morning routines are so important for children and adults. Make a schedule with your child with pictures and/or words of the morning routine. It will become their habit.

COVID Protocols and Preventions

  • Our best preventions for COVID are Masks Up over our noses, Hand Washing frequently, and Physical Distancing from others as best we can.

  • If an adult or other family member in your home has symptoms and is getting tested, PLEASE keep your child home from school until the test results are in. If the results are positive then your child is a “close contact” and needs to be home quarantined. If they come to school and then become positive, then they are potentially exposing others.

  • Frequently Asked Questions about COVID19 Our district website has a COVID-19 page that includes the Latest Updates.

Morning Procedures

Parents, please follow these procedures when dropping students off in the morning. THANKS!

  • No right turns onto Fryelands Blvd. (this backs up the car drop off area and crosswalk area)

  • The service road just south of the school is not a drop off point (it is for small buses and transitional kindergarten only)

  • No animals allowed on campus at any time

  • Have younger siblings walk bikes and scooters, too, when on our school campus

We ask that children do not arrive before 8:35 a.m., as supervision is not provided. Our school hours are 8:55 a.m. to 3:25 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:55 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. on Fridays.

  • A bell rings at 8:35 a.m. for students to come in for breakfast

  • A bell rings at 8:45 a.m. for all students to come into school at their designated entrance

  • A bell rings at 8:55 a.m. for the start of school, students are tardy after this time

  • Tardy students need to come to the front door and office for a pass to class

Friday Dismissal Times: We dismiss on all Fridays at 2:25 p.m.

This time is used for school improvement and for professional development and collaboration by all staff in the district.

Where to pick up students after school

As an all-walking school, it is imperative that we know if there is going to be a change in your child’s normal after school routine and if another adult is going to be picking up your child after school. Please contact the office before 2:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and before 1:45 p.m. on Fridays, so that your child and the teacher will know in advance of the change.

If you are picking up your child after school, please choose one option:

• Meet students at the Flagpole (Door 1)

• Car pick-up (Door 3)

• Meet them at the North Gate towards the park (Door 4)

We are off to a great start and we have a terrific group of students at Fryelands Elementary School. Thank you for bringing your students to us ready each day for their academic and social learning. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at or at 360-804-3400.

Health Room News

Parent/Guardian Planning for a Sick Student

Families and caregivers should make a plan in case their child needs to be picked up early from school due to illness. Please ensure contact information is up to date with the school. You can check your contact information in Family Access to ensure that it is up to date. If you need to make changes, you can do so on Family Access or contact us at 360-804-3400.

Parents/guardians should contact the school to report if their child is sick, and the health room staff will determine when it is safe for the student to return to school. If your student suffers from seasonal allergies, we strongly suggest that you get a note from your health care provider stating an allergy diagnosis. This will prevent undo absences and/or covid testing. If you have any questions, please let us know.

School Lunch/Breakfast

This year, students at Monroe School District have a lot to look forward to when it comes to mealtime. For the 2021-2022 school year, meals will be offered to students in all grade levels at no cost, thanks to flexibilities provided by the USDA’s National School Lunch Program. This allows everyone to enjoy 1 free breakfast & 1 free lunch per day.

All families, however, are encouraged to fill out the annual Free and Reduced Price Meal Application as eligibility provides many other benefits, including Pandemic EBT benefits for your family, no student fees for high school programs, free student entrance to all ASB extracurricular events (dances, athletics, etc) and reduced fees for family members to attend extracurricular events (athletics, plays, etc). Filling out this application also provides critical funding for our schools.

What’s on the Menu? Nutrislice, an innovative app, students, parents and faculty have access to school menus, including nutrition information, allergens and photos. Nutrislice can be downloaded for free from the App store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and is available on desktop and mobile devices.

Menus are also available at

Typical school attendance laws have been reinstated, and teachers will be taking attendance daily. If your student is not able to participate please call the school attendance hotline at 360 804-3401 and leave us a message so that we can excuse your student's absence. Our office will follow up with families we do not hear from in order to excuse the absence.

We encourage you to "like" and "follow" this page. We post morning announcements, nightly reading, and other fun events. It’s fun to see Fryelands Falcons participating by posting on our Facebook page.
