Alice Carlson ALC: Rooted in 30 Years of Applied Learning
Message from Liz
I had the opportunity to meet our new superintendent, Dr. Ramsey, during a professional learning event where she said, "I hear there is a school in the district where everyone goes by first name." I raised my hand as she searched the room and several members of our school community cheered. I am excited to welcome Dr. Ramsey to our community and proud to introduce her to the small school on a busy street, where the magic happens.
We finished a successful Intersession and are moving into Friday Clusters and Clubs. Students are planning Math-O-Ween and Field Day. Following this, we send home SBRs, and parent conferences begin. Another reminder of why I fell in love with Carlson and proudly serve as lead learner.
October is moving fast. We are ready for it!
Parent Conference

OLE (Outdoor Learning Environment) Celebration
Please join us in celebrating the 2022 Master Gardener Intern Class. They chose Alice Carlson OLE as their project, a crucial requirement for their MG certification. They rebricked the patio, replanted the bog pond, repaired benches, and much more.
MATHOWEEN: 10/27 from 5:00-7:00
New Family Guide A-Z: Letter M
Halloween at Alice Carlson is a bit non-traditional, which makes it all the more fun!
Mathoween is an evening event of math games and clever costumes. In the weeks leading
up to Mathoween, each class works together to create their own math game. On the night of
Mathoween, students are expected to “work” a shift for their class booth/game, and they
also get to play the games created by the other classes along with each of you. To make the evening even more fun, students come dressed in math-themed costumes. Think Acute Witch, The Count, a Pi-lot or Pi-rate!
Field Day: 10/28 from 12:20-2:30
Field Day is held on the open sports field behind the school during school hours. True to
Carlson fashion, it is a unique event that gives students a chance to lead, work in a team,
use their imaginations, get moving and have a great time. Students rotate through stations
to participate in wonderfully novel games based on a chosen theme for that year. It is a
great way to foster a sense of community among all classes and age groups. Typically, 5th
grade students lead each team made up of K-5 students along with teachers and parent volunteers
