Read Around the Planet: Learning About and With Others
Students at campuses across Alief ISD participated in Read Around the Planet by sharing in face to face learning experiences with students in all parts of North America, Canada and even England.
Books for Home Libraries
Research shows that an important facet in combating illiteracy is having a print-rich home library. The Alief Library program has worked this spring with generous donors to build home libraries across Alief. Donors include: Bess the Book Bus, Books Between Kids, and Caring Friends.
More Than Books
Over the decades libraries across the nation have changed from book repositories to thriving hubs of engaging learning activities. The libraries across Alief lead in this arena. On any given day an Alief library might be the locale for a Poetry Slam, Karaoke Jam, Rubik's Cube Challenge, Murder Mystery, Fortnite Tournament, KPop Club, Harry Potter Sorting, Robotics Competition, Geodesic Dome Building, or much more.
Battle of the Books
Third and fourth grade students across Alief are competing in campus Battle of the Books competitions. Students who choose to participate prepare for the competitions by reading Texas Bluebonnet books and participating in practice events throughout the school year. District-wide competitions will be held later this spring.
