Good evening BMES Families,
Our Intent Forms arrived from the print shop on Friday so they did not make it home yet. They will be coming home this week. All students will receive a paper so please complete and return as soon as possible.
This week is Staff and Teacher Appreciation. We would love your help in recognizing the efforts of our staff for all the attention and support they provide to their students. Please see the information below on how we can recognize the rockstars that the BMES staff is!
- Monday: Write a nice note and don't forget about the support crew!
- Tuesday: Show off your BMES favorite merch and show your school spirit!
- Wednesday: Treat your teachers with a high five or bring them a little treat- you decide!
- Thursday: Fan Art- Bring them your favorite art work (drawing)!
- Friday: Show our teachers some love through flowers (real or hand drawn).
This week, we will also be having our Kindergarten Kickoff on Tuesday at 5pm. If you know of a neighbor or family that has a rising kindergartener, please have them check out our website for more information.
Lastly, May 13 will be an early dismissal. Please mark your calendars for our dismissal at 12:45pm and no preschool students will attend on the early dismissal day.
Have a wonderful evening,
Mrs. Wagner

Please visit YCSD Student Registration.* Once online pre-registration is complete, please call the main office to schedule your in-person registration appointment with Mrs. Howard. May 16- May 27: SOL Testing in grades 3-5
Parents,
This email is a reminder that SOL testing will take place in May. This year all SOL tests will be online for our grade 3-5 students. There are several things you can do to help your child have a positive testing experience:
- Please do not schedule doctor or dentist appointments on testing days.
- Make certain your child gets plenty of rest, eats a good breakfast, and arrives at school on time.
- Students may bring pencils, a lunch, a water bottle and a book to read after testing.
- Positive encouraging notes are helpful to remind students how much they have learned this year and how successful they will be showing it!
- The campus will limit visitors on testing days.

Food Services Update
For the past two school years, meals have been provided to all YCSD students at no cost through a waiver provided by the USDA. This waiver will not be reissued. Instead, breakfast and lunch meals will return to a paid status, with no charges allowed, beginning this summer. Free or reduced price meals will be available (upon application and approval) to students whose family income falls within federally established guidelines. Families with students participating in Summer Academy programs who would like to take advantage of free or reduced price meal options are asked to submit applications by Wednesday, June 1, 2022, if applications have not already been submitted. Please go to myschoolapps.com to access the application. This application period will cover families until October 31, 2022.
Paper Applications are also available in all school offices so feel free to ask your child's teacher for a copy if needed.
Additional information regarding free or reduced price meal applications for the 2022-23 school year will be provided before the start of the year. If you have questions, please call 757-898-0468 or 757-898-0485 or visit the Let’s Talk – Ask YCSD platform.

2022-23 School Year Calendar
The School Board has approved the 2022-23 school year calendar. The first day of school will be Monday, August 29, 2022. Under state law, the Friday before Labor Day must be a student holiday, creating a 4-day weekend. Next year's calendar is available on the division website.

Free Tutoring
As part of the division's efforts to address unfinished learning in accordance with the ARP Act ESSER III funds, the York County School Division has partnered with FEV Tutor to provide students in grades 3-12 with free, 1:1 online tutoring. In addition to supporting coursework and homework in core subjects such as math, English/Language Arts, science and social studies, FEV Tutor offers support for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses.
Along with the on-demand support, FEV Tutor also offers weekly sessions between 7 and 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on weekends so families can select the times that work best for their schedule. To get started with e-tutoring, students should log in to Clever and locate the FEV Tutor app icon to get started. They can then schedule sessions and access live help at any time of the day.
While all support is live and personalized to each student's classes and needs, the program does not involve device cameras or microphones - instead all interactions involve a whiteboard and chat feature. Students will be able to share their screens and upload documents to review with tutors, and tutors only have access to student work provided by the individual student. Once a student is signed up for weekly sessions, FEV Tutor may periodically email families and students (aged 13 and older).
