Middle childhood is often one of the healthiest periods.


  1. Children's hearing is usually well developed now
  2. Awareness of midrange sounds develop first
  3. Then high and low-range awareness
  4. By 11 they have auditory awareness of adults
  5. Ear infections could be health problems
  6. Left untreated causes permanent hearing loss
  7. Changes in body structure change frequency of infection
  8. The Eustachian tube changes position
  9. That helps prevent bacteria from moving


  1. By age six children are ready to read
  2. They can see objects through both eyes
  3. And at the same time
  4. Many preschoolers are farsighted
  5. During middle ages their closer vision improves
  6. In middle childhood nearsightedness is most common
  7. Engaging in close activities lead to being nearsighted
  8. 25 percent of children will have their vision corrected
  9. Important to check children's vision regularly


  1. During middle childhood children lose baby teeth
  2. First teeth to go are central incisors
  3. By 12 all 20 primary teeth are replaced
  4. Gradually bones grow to lengthen & widen mouths
  5. These changes accommodate the larger permanent teeth
  6. Tooth loss can have a psychological effect
  7. Children become self conscious and uncomfortable
  8. Common health problem is tooth decay
  9. Children with bad dental habits have cavities later
  10. Eat well balanced meals
  11. Avoid foods high in sugar
  12. Brush teeth faithfully
  13. Regular dental check ups
