Principal's Newsletter
What is going on in the world of Buena Vista
Introduction of Monthly Principal's Newsletter
In an effort to improve communication and build transparancy beyond our school walls, we will be sending out Principal's Newsletters each month. If you would like to opt out of these emails, please send me quick note and I will delete you from our mailing list. On the other hand if you know someone who is not receiving them, please pass along their name. We will be partnering with the PTA enews who will still be providing weekly updates about school events.
I want to commend our entire staff for their hard work, preparation and commitment to kicking off the new school year with great success. Thank you also to our families for knowing where to drop off and pick up your students while being sensitive to our community partners in the area.
Please remember that getting your student here on time will set them up for success. Student attendance is a statistically significant predictor of student performance. What's more, students are affected by the attendance rates of their schools, so that even students with high attendance rates may suffer academically from being in an environment where absenteeism is a problem. Spotlight on Currilcum
Teachers College Writing Workshop model allows us to harness student interest in a way that promotes education surrounding writing conventions. We believe that our lives are worth writing about, and that our students need to care about what they write. We believe that writing is a craft; it can be empowering for students to learn how to become better writers. We believe that writing should happen every day. Students in each grade write in different genres throughout the year. Students are not assigned to specific topics, but rather choose their own topics within the genre being taught. At the conclusion of the writing units we publish our work with a celebration!
