Good Citizenship

How can one become a citizen?
- One way you can become a citizen is by being naturalized.
- To become naturalized you have to be an allowed citizen of the United States for 5 years.
- Then you can fill out an application with your personal information.
- You have to take a test on American history, values, and laws in the US.
- You have to be able to read write and speak English.
- To become naturalized you have to be 18 years or older.
- Once the process is done you have all the rights, duties and responsibilities of an average citizen.
- If you were born in the United States
- Parents were US citizens when you were born.
- Under age 18 when one of your parents were naturalized
- Parents are a citizen
Being a Good Citizen-Community
Duty
Something you must do. An example of a duty is to pay taxes. If you don’t pay taxes, there isn't enough money for healthcare, repairing roads, and Social Security.
Responsibilities
Something you should do. A responsibility is something such as picking up trash on the side of a littered highway. It isn’t required, but it helps out the community a lot.
Right
Something you can do. A right is something such as voting. Not everybody in the world can vote, and everybody over the age of 18 has the ability to vote for things such as laws, presidents, mayors, and other leaders.
What power does one have with the "office of citizen"?
- vote for people in office
- collect taxes
- build roads
- make laws
- representatives are the voices of citizens
