Principal Newsletter

Hello SKS families ~

Throughout the year, on the first Wednesday of the month, Saint Kateri School celebrates Spirit Day. On these days students can wear their Spirit Shirt along with their regular uniform. The first Spirit Day will be Wednesday, November 3rd ~ let's see those class colors!

The first Quarter of school ends on November 12th and Report Cards will be distributed on Friday, November 19th. Classroom teachers will communicate how their class families will be signing up for Parent/Teacher Conferences on Monday, 11/22 and Tuesday, 11/23. If you do not hear by Friday, contact your child's teacher.

Thank you for all you do for our SKS community ~

Halloween Costumes and Parade

Students will be able to dress up this Friday, October 29th and participate in the Halloween Parade. Our plan is to parade outside, around our school building beginning at 9:00am ~ weather permitting. If we are able to parade outside, family members will be invited to park around our school loop (from the front to the back) to watch the parade at their cars. Families will not be able to walk with their children but there will be plenty of Kodak moments!

If the weather is not cooperating, we will hold the parade inside the school building. If we parade inside families will not be able to to watch due to our social distancing guidelines. We will LIVE stream to Facebook the parade for your viewing pleasure. Stay tuned to Facebook (St. Kateri School Irondequoit) for updates on Friday morning whether we will be inside or outside.

News from the Nurse

Dear Saint Kateri Families,

I am writing to address the return to school policy for students after being absent with a COVID-19 symptom. Please remember that these guidelines are provided to us by the Monroe County Department of Public Health. These guidelines are ever evolving. I will do my best to keep you informed of the changes as they occur.

COVID-19 symptoms include:

  • Temperature GREATER THAN 100 degrees, Chills
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Sore Throat
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Headache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Cough
  • Nasal Congestion
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Muscle or body aches

If your child is home with one of these symptoms, please call the Main Office at (585) 467-8730 expect a call from the Main office or myself.

Before your child can return to school, one of the following three things must occur:

1. Your child must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test ~

  • This MUST BE a PCR test or a NAAT (molecular) test.
  • Your child must be fever free (without the use of fever reducing medications) for 24 hours.
  • Your child must have a significant improvement in symptoms.

2. Your child must see a medical provider
  • If COVID-19 is not suspected, the medical provider must provide documentation explaining the alternate diagnosis.
  • Your child must be fever free (without the use of fever reducing medications) for 24 hours.
  • Your child must have a significant improvement in symptoms.

3. Your child may return to school 10 days after the date of first symptoms
  • Your child must be fever free (without the use of fever reducing medications) for 24 hours.
  • Your child must have a significant improvement in symptoms.

Please be aware that if your child displays symptoms at school, they will be sent home and will not be able to return until the one of the above protocols have occurred. Hand washing, sanitizing and proper mask wearing is something that is being enforced all day, every day at school.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

PARENT’S ASSOCIATION 2021-2022

If you are interested in volunteering this year at any of our upcoming school events, we’d love to hear from you! You can help out our school even if you aren’t available to attend the Parent Association meetings. We have the Book Fair, Holiday Shop, and Senior Tea coming up quickly and if we are able (due to Covid), we would love to have some extra hands.

Also, please take a minute and complete the Volunteer Form below that was sent home and return to school. This was a great way to coordinate the volunteers we need for each event! Thank you!

We will have our next Parent's Association Meeting next Wednesday, November 3rd ~ 6:00-7:30pm. Meeting ID: 860 8522 8244, Pass Code: SKSRocks!

To make it easier ~ this Zoom Meeting information is the same for all of the Parent's Association Meetings this year. ~ See you soon!
