My New York

We started off our New York City Study talking about My New York. Students thought about the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, people, games, and wonders related to their neighborhood.

We are asking that students bring in drawings, pictures, and artifacts (menus, flyers, art, etc) from their neighborhood as we are going to be creating collages.

What Else Are We Learning?

Reading: We are working on developing strong reading behaviors including practicing routines, thinking about what we read, sharing our thoughts, and keeping track of what we read.

Writing: We have started our unit on small moments. Students have brainstormed important people and places in their lives. Now they are choosing a small moment to focus on. Ask your child about his/her ideas!

Math: We are learning about parts of ten and how to use these parts to help us add and subtract. As part of our daily routine, we are discussing the number of days we have been in school and finding objects that represent a length that is smaller, the same, and longer than that number in inches. This week we located objects that were 20 inches, 21 inches, and 22 inches.

Swimming Students will go swimming at Asphalt Green every Tuesday. Your child will need a swimsuit, towel, goggles, swim cap (for long hair), and a change of underwear.
