Forever Endeavor
Endeavor Elementary School Newsletter - December 2017
Mrs. Thistle's Thoughts
Greetings!
Here comes the wintery weather, yeah! Please make sure your kids come to school with their hat, gloves, boots, snow pants, and a winter coat (labelled with their name on all items.) The Endeavor lost and found is located by Room 6.
Thank you to everyone who has offered to volunteer at our school. We are very excited to have 13 dedicated and committed volunteers who help students on a regular basis. If you are interested in volunteering but haven't reached out, please let us know. We are all better when we work together. Also, we collected over 100 pounds of food which was donated to the Endeavor Food Pantry from the recent PTO dance. A special thanks to all who helped organize the dance and/or donated food.
Everyone at Endeavor Elementary School would like to wish you and your family a happy, healthy and safe winter break. We look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces in 2018!
All the best to you!
A Day with Anne Horjus
Anne Horjus, author/illustrator/artist/concert vocalist/storyteller/puppetmaker/woodcarver came to visit Endeavor Elementary. He showed slides about his homeland, the Netherlands, and shared some of his many talents with the students. The students along with Anne made a Paint Pour Mural that will be displayed in the school.
Anne currently resides in Baraboo, WI.

Notes from the Office
This holiday season, the best gift you can give your child is a good education. And the best place to get an education is in school. It’s tempting to extend your vacation by a few days, but remember, those days count as absences. Just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time. So make sure your child is in school every day, right up until vacation starts.
Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning.

Art With Ms. Martens
Hello Parents!
It has been a fun month in the art room! Kids have been...
Preparing artwork for the Art Show at the December Music Concert.
Attending the Creative Arts Festival (3rd-4th graders)
Please check out the photos below of some talented Portage student artists you may recognize.
Also, go to artsonia.com and click on your child’s school to view more student artwork. If you are interested in volunteering, I could use a hand taking pictures of artwork for this. There is just never enough time in the day to sit and do this! Please e-mail me if interested!
I am looking ahead to the upcoming art projects I plan to have students create for the winter music program and am wondering if you might have these supplies at home. I would very much appreciate it if you would like to donate any of the following items to the art room.
Thanks so much for checking!
large wooden kitchen spoons
Toilet paper tubes(or paper towel rolls)
Popsicle sticks
Socks-white & color-doesn't matter if there are holes;)
Ribbon-thick
tomato cages-any size

3rd-4th graders at the Creative Arts Festival: Students took classes like Jewelry, creating an Artist Chair, Theater, Becoming a Composer, Glowing Lanterns, Weaving and Stencil painting. They all were smiling by the end of the day!
3rd graders are inspiring us with their winter signs!
4th graders loved recycling old socks to make their 3-D snowman sculptures!
Nursing Notes With Ms. Hon
Vision Screening
Students in kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grades have completed vision screening. Those students who needed a recheck have also had that completed. Referrals to have an eye doctor exam have been sent home for all children who, at this point, need one.
Referrals are sent out to parents/guardians in writing so you may take the results to your eye doctor. If your insurance does not cover an eye doctor exam, or the insurance does not cover the cost of glasses, our school nurse can connect you to resources so your child will have what s/he needs. This also applies if you do not have insurance. Please contact the school nurse to discuss the referrals, or if you need assistance with obtaining services or glasses for your child.
Anyone may refer their son/daughter for a screening by the school nurse.
Remember, children learn so much through what they see. An eye exam is the only way to know for sure if your child needs glasses or not.
Mrs. Hon may be reached at 742-4867, extension 4131.

New Year, New Books from our very own, Mrs. Bare
"You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book."
Dr. Seuss
On December 31, sponsored by the Endeavor Elementary PTO, Andrea Bare, (one of Endeavor Elementary's Educational Assistants), will end the year by running a 10k to raise money for new books in Endeavor Elementary School library and classrooms.
Every page of a book has the power to let a student's imagination soar to new places, meet people from all walks of life, and do the impossible.
Please consider partnering with us as we strive to give our students every resource we can to help them dream and succeed.
