Cloverdale Elementary News
Week of September 28, 2020
Welcome to our first Cloverdale Elementary weekly newsletter!
I hope you are all well and staying safe. I want you to know that we miss you all very much. This is our second weekly newsletter and I hope this will become a positive communication tool to share events and all great things happening at our school. Please know that we are here to serve. If you are having issues with technology or communication during distance learning, please know that you can contact your teacher or our office as necessary. If you have not already done so, please complete the annual information update. We continue to remain in distance learning until October 30th. There continue to be information updates from our Superintendent every week on the possibility of a return to school by students and staff. I am repeating some of the information I shared last week here in case you missed it.
At Cloverdale we strive to be Leaders by Example. As I mention to our students during announcements, this means that we always try to do the right thing even when no one is looking.
As part of our school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), we also learn to ROAR. This is a matrix that exemplifies our core values of being Respectful, Organized, Accountable, and Responsible.
We also know that a FAIL is only a First Attempt in Learning and that we learn best from our mistakes. When someone makes a mistake we say "It's Cool!"
AVID - Cloverdale is also an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) school. As part of AVID we have three school goals that we work on at all grade levels. These are Organization skills, Note-taking, and using a planner or calendar.
Distance Learning - I truly appreciate the passion for education and learning from our entire school community. Thank you to all of the families including parents, guardians, relatives, babysitters, and many others for your patience and flexibility during distance learning. Thank you to all of you who have completed your annual information updates and for coming into the school to pick up student materials and receive support when necessary. We have the best school staff in our district. They are passionate and dedicated to give your children the best education and support. If you have any questions, concerns, or technical difficulties, please reach out to your child's teacher and/or our office as necessary. We are here to support you.
Communication - Please continue to listen and read through our Superintendent's weekly updates. I also strongly encourage you to download our Cloverdale Elementary App from the App store or Google Play if you have not already done so. We use it to help keep you up to date and share resources that may be of interest to you.
Thank you all again for your support and all of the encouragement and love you share for our school community.
Sincerely,
Genaro García

SEL Focus Of The Week
Predicting Feelings and Understanding Other’s Feelings
One way we react to situations that happen is with our feelings.
People often express their feelings through their actions and on their faces and bodies.
We can think ahead and try to predict how someone will feel after something happens.
To predict means to make a guess about what might happen next.
People can have different feelings about the same situation.
You can think back to what happened first to try to understand how someone feels.
You can pay attention to what is happening to find clues about why someone feels the way they do.
When faced with the same situations, people can feel differently.
Identifying other people’s feelings and perspectives allows us to understand them and provide support.
