OASIS Luncheon honors volunteers

Continent research
Dear Parents and Ishamites,
Testing season is over! Results from our third and fourth grade tests will be sent mid-June. We are eager to see how we have done.
This month we honored the dedication of the OASIS volunteers in helping us read. Their weekly hours of support makes Isham a great place for learning. A luncheon at the Galaxy honored their contribution last week.
This month, May, has been filled with reading about non-fiction around the world. Each grade level enjoyed researching a continent and its' animal population. Research at all levels abounded with students loving learning. Nightly reading, having a live author teach us how to write, and Outback Ray sharing animals made Right to Read Month exciting.
The Ice Cream Social, sponsored by our PTO, was a huge success with over 500 people in attendance. Our Young Authors Books this year were amazing. Each year the quality exceeds the prior year. We raised money for next year's activities, shared our writing, and enjoyed a family ice cream treat. Students also enjoyed hatching chicks from eggs, growing butterflies, and sharing their learning with parents.
Next year, we have many exciting happenings. Our technology will take a 1:1 model with Ipads in grades K-1, and chrome books in grades 2-4 for every student. We have striven to be on the cutting edge with technology in the classroom and this furthers our goal. Our Social Studies curriculum will be enhanced with a new series in a newspaper format. This year we loved our new science with many trade books to read about subject matter. Our writing, took off with a new exciting emphasis where student chose their topic to write about in their area of interest. Lots of great changes that continue our district's incredible focus on academics. This clearly illustrates why Wadsworth is competitive and high performing.
Make sure your family joins us for LOL-Literacy on the Lawn at our building on 6/25 and 7/17, and district level 6/26, 7/30, 8/12. Reading builds leaders. Students can earn an ice cream treat from Bidinger's by returning their completed summer reading calendar to Mrs. Watts, so remember to fill them out.
Wishing you a wonderful summer. Enjoy your time away.

Students of the Month-April and May
In addition, three students per classroom have been selected based on their good character. Each month a different character trait is discussed daily, and individuals are selected based on their respect, responsibility, kindness, perseverance. Mrs. Farson has organized monthly assemblies and a clap-through which students have loved.
Above are April and May building monthly representatives honored at the BOE Meeting at the PAC. This year we have selected nine fourth grade students as BOE Student of the Month. Each student is featured in our hallway with their picture on display reminding us of their great character.
