AP TESTING
Students in Advanced Placement (AP) classes are receiving join codes from their AP teachers in classes now. Students MUST join their teacher's college board AP classroom using this join code in order to test in May. Additionally, beginning September 1, parents/students must pay for AP exams through school cash online. Deadline to pay for exams is October 30, 2023.
Students may only have ONE College Board account (if student has taken the PSAT/SAT or another AP test, they already have an account). DO NOT create a new college board account if you are unsure. If students have issues with their College Board account, parents/students must contact College Board at https://support.collegeboard.org/help-center/account-help. The school cannot help students with College Board accounts.
Please find additional information at: https://twhs.conroeisd.net/ap-testing/
Contact Assistant Principal Laura Braun at LBraun@conroeisd.net with any Advanced Placement Testing questions.

TENNIS: The Highlander Team Tennis fell to #6 Clements 14-5 last Friday , leaving TWHS with a 3-1 season record. CLINIC NOTES
Your nurses this school year are Alana Ansley at the Senior Campus, aransley@conroeisd.net or 936-709-1076, and Erica Falcon at the Ninth Grade Campus, efalcon@conroeisd.net or 832-592-8209. Our clinic hours are 7:00-3:00 on school days. We are looking forward to a happy and healthy year with your students, and truly appreciate the donations of snacks and feminine hygiene supplies that parents have given us!
● As we are completing enrollment for this school year, we will be emailing or sending letters home if your student has any overdue vaccines or expiring Conscientious Objector exemptions. If you receive one of those letters, please take care of any missing vaccines promptly so that your student may remain enrolled.
● If your student requires any medications while they are on campus, they must be checked in to the clinic or athletic trainers by a parent or guardian. Students may not transport medications to or from school, even if they are 18 years old. All medications must be in their original, labeled container, unexpired, and we ask that you provide no more than a 30-day supply. We highly encourage students to carry their own Epi-Pen or inhaler; those do need to be accompanied by a form that is completed by your doctor each school year. This self-carry form must also be provided to the clinic to be kept on file throughout the school year. You can find those forms on our clinic website: https://twhs.conroeisd.net/departments/department-home/clinic/
● Please continue to self-report any positive student COVID cases in the COVID application (in the student SSO). We are still requiring students who test positive to stay home for 5 days after their first day of symptoms, and they may return on day 6 as long as they have improving symptoms and have been fever-free for at least 24 hours. There is no need for close contacts to quarantine unless they are symptomatic.
● Feel free to follow us on our Instagram account, @twhsclinic.
CLUB NEWS
BAGPIPING CLUB: For over 20 years The Woodlands High School Bagpiping Club has been a valued part of Highlander life. TWHS Pipers have taken part at pep rallies, sporting events, ceremonies and much more. Our Bagpiping Club provides lessons free of charge to any TWHS student interested in learning this traditional Scottish instrument. Beginner piping lessons begin mid-September. For more information please contact: Craig Livingston, TWHS Bagpipe Instructor, craigL@lLoneStar.edu or Hunter McLeod, TWHS Bagpipe Sponsor, hmcleod@conroeisd.net. Come be a part of a Highlander Tradition.
DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS CLUB: Calling all adventurers! The Dungeons and Dragons club will be hosting meetings on Wednesdays in Room 231. We accept players of all classes and experience levels. If you have any questions, feel free to email Mrs. Rickman (emrickman@conroeisd.net) or stop by Room 231.

Meet in the Middle is a club that brings students with intellectual disabilities together with their typically developing peers for activities that center around fun, fitness, and friendship. At the kickoff, we will have pizza, popsicles, and lots of other snacks! EVERYONE is welcome to join. Mrs. Maberry (dmaberry@conroeisd.net) sponsors the club and can answer any questions you have.
SCUBA CLUB: Scuba Club at TWHS is for ANYONE interested in scuba diving—you do NOT have to be scuba certified to be a member; we can help you with the process of learning to dive! We are trying something new this year. We know everyone has a lot on their calendars with multiple clubs and activities after school most days. Instead of having regular monthly meetings, we will have just a few during the year, but they will be good ones—guest speakers, show and tell, and snacks! Most of our club business will be conducted via our GroupMe chat. Search for “Scuba Club at TWHS” and request permission to join. Our club President, senior Alexander Bleakley, will coordinate events for us such as a Fall Dive Meetup at one of our local scuba locations (for those already scuba certified) and a “Try Scuba” Event at Woodlands Dive Center (for those interested in learning more and trying out the equipment in their practice pool). All of this will happen on GroupMe so join soon! We also have a website, www.scuba-twhs.com, with information and photos from previous events.
STUDENT COUNCIL: Student Council had their first meeting on Monday 8/14 -- almost 300 were in attendance. We are currently collecting water bottles to use to make shakers for football games and candy for goody bags, teacher gifts, etc. Donations are also being collected for the Montgomery County Women's Shelter - toiletries and clothing. Back From the Beach Pep Rally was held on Friday 8/25 - faculty, staff, and students dressed up in beach attire and we cheered on our Football, Tennis, Cross Country, and Water Polo teams. We handed out teacher appreciation treats on Friday as well -- "You are O "fish" ally the Best!!" Our next Pep Rally is Friday September 8 - The Greatest Show on Earth - Circus theme. Homecoming Court nominations will be held 9/6 - 9/8 and voting will occur 9/13 - 9/15. Mark your calendars -- Red and Green Parade Wednesday 9/27 and Homecoming Dance is Saturday 9/30. Our next meeting is on September 11 and all are welcome. If you have any questions please contact Kristen Gartner- SR campus - kgartner@conroeisd.net or Jill Parsley - FR campus - jhart@conroeisd.net
TABLE TENNIS CLUB: Meeting dates are August 29, 31, Sept 5, & 7. Meet in Room 216 @ 2:45.

FRENCH NHS: French NHS inducted 24 new members on Tuesday, August 29th. We are so proud to honor our new members, and we are looking forward to a spectacular year!
GERMAN: TWHS German students started their year off with a cultural deep dive activity. After learning about the history and purpose of an important first-day-of-school tradition, the "Schultüte", German 1 students got to make their own Schultüte in class. At the end, they participated in another German tradition, class pictures. Each group posed for the camera, and the smiles were even bigger when they got to try some German candy on top of it all. What a great start to the new school year! #Diversity
JROTC: Our after-school activities started this week! We have Aerospace, Drill, Marksmanship, PT, and Raiders teams hard at work. Our Academic and Orienteering teams will start up as we get closer to our first competitions. Freshmen can take the shuttle buses to the senior campus to attend these activities. Each separate activity you try earns you one activity credit toward your Activities Ribbon at the end of the year.
This past Friday, we provided a color guard, ran the flags, and performed pushups for our first Highlander football game. We also supported Cross Country and their Friday Night Lights race with cadets providing traffic control.
Our first Spirit Day is at Chiller Bee Frozen Yogurt Tuesday, September 5th, all day. Mention “JROTC Spirit Day” and our Booster Club will get 30% of the proceeds at no additional cost to you…come for lunch, dinner, and dessert! You don’t have to be in JROTC to support us—bring your friends!
Our first Booster Club Meeting of the year is Tuesday, September 12, 7-8pm at the Senior Campus in LGI 1 (near the Theater). Cadets, be sure your parent comes to get all the information they need! Cadets who bring their parent/guardian will receive an activity credit toward their ribbon.
JROTC parents, you should be receiving our weekly Parent Newsletter link via email on Wednesdays. We send it to the parent email(s) listed in the school’s system. If you are NOT receiving emails from Lt Col McMartin, 1) check your junk/spam folder, and 2) email cmcmartin@conroeisd.net to ensure you are on our mailing list.

9th GRADE CAMPUS
9th GRADE PSAT INFORMATION
PSAT – The Woodlands H.S. 9th Grade Campus has PSAT (Preliminary SAT) exams for students to purchase for $15 on the School Cash Online webstore. Freshmen wishing to take the PSAT in school will need to purchase the exam by the end of the school day on September 25, 2023. We have limited availability. The test will be administered in sessions over three days, October 17 - 19, 2023. Each student that purchases an exam will be assigned ONE test session during the testing window. You will receive communication about your student’s testing date and time no later than Wednesday, October 11th. All students taking the exam will report to the 9th grade campus on their assigned test date.
Typically, we encourage freshmen in upper-level math courses (Honors Geometry and Algebra II for example) to take this exam due to the level of math tested. Please visit this website link provided by College Board (https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/inside-the-test/math) to view the math expectations of the PSAT exam so that you can make an informed decision on whether or not this exam would be appropriate for your student at this time.
Your student will have an additional opportunity to practice for the PSAT exam during their sophomore year which will prepare them for the actual NMSQT qualification exam as a junior. Every Conroe ISD student will have the opportunity to sit for the exam for no fee their Sophomore and Junior year.
To read more about this test, please review the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide at https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/psat-nmsqt-student-guide.pdf
This year, the PSAT is digital. Students will use school managed devices. College Board has created a video to explain the new digital exam - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yljPogCcKrY.
To purchase the PSAT for your 9th grader, it can be found in School Cash Online at this link https://conroeisd.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/44697/195/False/True beginning Friday, September 1, 2023.
If you have questions about the PSAT, you can email Mrs. Amy Sager at asager@conroeisd.net.
9th GRADE CAMPUS ALTERNATE REPORTING LOCATION ON TESTING DATES
There are times throughout the year where the senior/main campus has an alternate schedule from the 9th grade campus or vice versa. This is usually due to testing requirements. To help with your planning please mark your calendar…ALL FRESHMEN will report to the 9th grade campus directly on October 17, 2023, and October 24, 2024. This includes all students that have electives/athletics on the senior campus first or fifth block. The senior campus will be testing 10-12th grade students over those two days. If you have questions, please reach out to your student’s counselor.
9th GRADE CAMPUS STUDENT IDs
Student ID use is in effect now on the 9th Grade Campus. All TWHS 9th Grade Students enrolled the first two weeks of school have received their Smart Tag student IDs. We continue to process new students. As per district requirement, all students, grades 7th-12th must wear their IDs at all times while on campus. They cannot be secured to their backpacks or in their pockets. It must be visible at all times. They must utilize a lanyard or ID clip to secure the ID on the front of their person so that it is easily seen. Keep in mind that students cannot punch holes in their IDs. It damages the functionality of the card for the buses.
If your student has lost or damaged their ID, replacements must be purchased through School Cash Online. There is a fee for the Smart Tag replacements, currently set at $2. This item has been added to your student’s account however, it is ONLY for those students that lose or damage their Smart Tag. Do not purchase a SMART Tag ID if your student’s ID is not lost or damaged. The item is available throughout the school year if one of these situations should arise for your student.
If a replacement is purchased, students will bring their receipt to the library to have a new ID printed.
When a student forgets their ID a temporary ID sticker will be made. These temporary IDs will cost $1 per printing. The fees will be added to the student’s school cash online account.
Please encourage your student to wear their ID. Consequences will begin on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
9TH GRADE CAMPUS CAR RIDER LINE
For the car rider line to move smoothly and efficiently we are requesting that cars move up as far as they can and stay close to the curb on the right-hand side where appropriate. Prior to 7 A.M., drop off will be in front of the building off of Branch Crossing Drive. After 7 A.M. we will have an auxiliary student drop off section in the back of the building off of Ashlane Way. When utilizing the front drop off zone, students will quickly exit the vehicle as soon as the car stops anywhere along the sidewalk from the service entrance to the end of the sidewalk in our Student Unloading Zone. Students should move out of the car on their own without being prompted by our staff. Please understand that we need everyone to exit in accordance to this policy. Keep in mind it is not about the space in front of you, we are concerned with the line of cars behind you. This allows everyone the opportunity to get to class on time safely.
We appreciate your cooperation to help the process move swiftly and provide a timely, safe arrival and departure from the building for our students.
