100th DAY!!!!!!
The 100th Day of School is quickly approaching! We will celebrate tomorrow, Tuesday, February 4th. To make it extra special, students are encouraged to dress like they are 100 years old. We tour the school and take a bunch of pictures. Students complete many 100 themed activities throughout the day. Wigs, makeup, props... we've seen it all! The kids have a BLAST. Please let me know if you have any questions!
IREAD
The class is doing a great job reading. Continue to read each night at home. Remember to add in your minutes from school each day.
Valentine's Day
If your child would like to pass out Valentine's Day Cards to the class please send them in on Feb. 13th. They will have time to pass them out before our party/service project. I sent the class list home last week. NO CANDY, please. If you have any questions, please let me know.
ELA
Last week students worked with nonfiction to learn about penguins. We talked about slowing down when reading nonfiction text because there are so many facts and text elements on each page. We also discussed how asking questions as you read helps you stay focused on helping you check your understanding. Last week, students also completed penguin research on their own. Students practiced identifying short e and long e sounds and we continue to review contractions. In writing, students worked on picking a topic, forming an opinion statement and thinking of 3 or 4 reasons to support their statement. Students are also increasing their stamina and working on their own writing pieces during writing workshop.
Math
Last week, we wrapped up our number line unit. Students worked on skip counting forwards and backward by 10, showing their work on a number line and solving word problems using different strategies. Last week, we also took our pretest for our geometry unit and completed some fun penguin-themed math.
Donut Dough
Last week we started Donut Dough. The kids are earning "money" in the classroom. There is a menu that I have created that they can save their "Donut Dough" for. Ask your child what they are saving for on the menu. The class is really into earning their "money" and working toward their goals.
