Bear Bulletin
Maire Newsletter December 10th edition
Dear Maire Families,
The past two weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster for the metro-Detroit community. The tragic events in Oxford, followed by numerous threats posted to social media across the area, really have been hard to process. As teachers and parents, we know how devastating and traumatic all of those events are. Here at school the staff have processed it each in our own way, but together we were preparing ourselves for how to best support our students. Consistency in routines, reminders that school is safe, and that they are loved have been our focus. For the most part, life and school went on as normal this week for our students, which is how we hoped it would go.
Grosse Pointe is continuing to look for ways to improve our emergency procedures, partnering with the local police chiefs and having consultants review our safety plans again. We are fortunate to have many positive things in place already. We have a dedicated staff and administration that wants to ensure our children feel safe and loved at school. We appreciate your partnership and the trust you put in us to take care of your children each and every day.
Sincerely,
Ryan Francis
proud Principal of Maire

Gleaner's Food Drive December 8-22
Maire is proud to participate in the annual Gleaner’s Food Drive this year, from December 8th through December 22nd.
We will be accepting donations in Gleaner’s boxes located in the secure vestibule, as well as in the 1st and 2nd floor hallways.
Canned food donations and non perishable items are most welcome!
Some kind suggestions as you choose what to donate:
-great ideas: coffee, tea bags, boxed milk, salt & pepper, spices, sugar, flour
-can openers are a welcome donation
-mac & cheese and rice a roni are oftentimes donated, but need things added to them (milk or oil) that people don’t always have on hand
Please keep in mind that we cannot accept any glass containers or any expired food items.
Hunger in Southeast Michigan:
614,000 people struggle with hunger, including 146,000 children. More than 300,000 school-age kids receive free and reduced-price school meals. At least 40% of the people Gleaner’s serves are children. Food drives provide a variety of greatly needed food items that go directly to our hungry neighbors.
Every 4 pounds of donated food = 3 meals!
Thank you Maire family!
It's time to order your Maire yearbook!
We are working hard to make the Maire yearbook bigger and better, and this year we will have custom front and back covers, designed by Maire 4th graders!

Leader in Me: Put First Things First
* I do the things that I have to do before I do the things that I want to do.
* I stay focused on what I am doing. I try to minimize distractions and I regroup if I get off task.
* I spend my time on the things that are most important.
