Track and Field December Volunteer Night
Parent Project and Loving Solutions
Classes beginning in February.
Parent Project is for parents (grandparents, caregivers) who are raising a challenging child age 11 to 18 years of age. Are you raising a tough kid age 5 to 10 years of age. No problem we can help you too. Loving Solutions is the class for you.
Parent Project:
Parenting is not easy, especially if you have a strong willed child. Being strong willed is not bad, but it can be very frustrating for the parents of a strong willed child. We can help parents learn how to best redirect this behavior in a more positive direction. We can help parents improve their relationship with their child using love and affection, positive strokes, positive consequences, active supervision, and the TEASPOT. What is a TEASPOT? Come to class and find out.
Parent project also helps parents learn and address: drug and alcohol use, negative peer influences, poor grades, truancy, threats to run away or harm themselves, dangers of social media and delinquent behaviors.
Unlike other parenting classes, Parent Project offers an unique support component where parents are encouraged to help and support each other. Parents find out they are not alone. Parent Project is open to any parent of a child 11 to 18 years of age. It was created for parents of strong willed children in this age group. Parent Project has proven to be effective and is being taught across Ohio, the United States, even in Mexico and Canada.
Another session of Parent Project will be starting soon. We are now taking referrals. Parent Project Class will begin Wednesday, February 26, 2020, meeting every Wednesday from 5:15 pm to 8:15 pm through May 6 (except for April 8). We are asking for referrals by February 18, 2020. Classes are held at the Ottawa County Family Advocacy Center, located at 570 S. McKinley, Port Clinton, Ohio. Please note this a new location.
Loving Solutions:
What is Loving Solutions? Loving Solutions®, also known as Parent Project, Jr. is a parent education program based on the award winning program Parent Project, Sr.® but adapted for parents of children ages 5-10 years of age. Loving Solutions builds hope for families and communities by providing specific, no-nonsense solutions to the problems parents face today: Sibling Rivalry, Family Conflict, Poor Grades, Truancy, Unruly and Delinquent Behaviors, Impulsive Behaviors, Modern Media and Technology. Loving Solutions offers practical and emotional support to families as they begin the difficult process of change.
Loving Solutions will help parents answer these questions along with many more: What do I do when my child refuses to help around the house? What can I do when my child screams and curses at me? What do I do if my child hits me? What do I do when my child refuses to go to school? How do I improve my child’s sleep schedule and diet?
Some of the tools parents will learn include: Self-limiting time outs, spot checks, choosing your battles, creating structure, negotiating a compromise, the 6 step action plan, consistency, and active listening.
Loving Solutions Class will be held every Wednesday morning starting February 26, 2020, through May 6, 2020 (except for April 8) from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. We are asking for referrals by February 18. Classes will be held at the Ottawa County Family Advocacy Center, located at 570 S McKinley, Port Clinton, Ohio.
Parents can be self-referred or referred to Loving Solutions and/or Parent Project classes by schools, social workers, diversion programs, court systems, law enforcement, mental health professionals, school officials, and others. Parents do not need to be court or children services involved, the public is welcome.
There is no cost for either class. If you have perfect attendance and successfully complete the class you will be rewarded with a gift card. Participants all receive a copy of the workbook to keep.
If you think you can benefit from Parent Project and/or Loving Solutions or know someone who could, please contact Stephanie Weeks at 419-734-6839 or parentproject@co.ottawa.oh.us. Attached is a brochure, referral paperwork, and a release of information. We are looking forward to your referrals.
Feel free to also post this information on your social networking page or in-house. The facilitators are also willing to speak to groups, civic organizations, schools, law enforcement, and/or service providers throughout the county to educate the community regarding what Loving Solutions and Parent Project is about.

Catching Up With Comets ~ Stacy Rutledge
This is a section where we would like to showcase and highlight the wonderful things Genoa graduates are doing in their selective career fields. The college and career ready component is something that Genoa high school is striving to focus on as we prepare students for a future. We hope that these thoughts and highlights shared will help spread some wisdom obtained by Genoa high school past graduates. This week, we will spotlight, Stacy Rutledge a 1989 graduate of Genoa high school.
What was one good memory from high school that students today may enjoy hearing from your high school days?
I loved my history class. The teacher was great and made it interesting & my classmates were fun and into the subject as much as I was.
After high school what path led you to where you are today? (After HS until Today)
I have gone down many different paths over the years, lol. This is where I am right now in my life, not necessarily where I will end up for the rest of my life.
What are your plans for the future?
No definite plans. Get my kids all settled, with college degrees and working. Then maybe think about that.
What would be one word of advice that you have for high school students now at Genoa?
Get the best grades you can, go as far as you can in school, don't give up and say you'll go back and do it later. It's harder to go back than you think. Do it now, do college straight after high school. It's easier that way. Do your best now, it will make the rest of your life easier and better when it really matters.
