Mr. Doyle's Message
On Friday March 24th, Creekside is hosting our 2nd Annual Polar Plunge event! Students are welcome to participate by signing up and raising $100. Our goal as a school is to raise $2000! This year's plunge will be out on the track. A mini obstacle course with blow up pools filled with ice water will be the "polar plunge"! Weather permitting, all Creekside staff and students will come outside to cheer on and support our CMS plungers!

Healthy Falcon Habits!
What are some things we can do to keep our kids safe online?
Building relationships and maintaining healthy connections with people are basic human needs. Our kids thrive on socialization! Safely accessing the digital world to feed that need is a significant challenge for adolescents with developing brains. As we stated last week, many of our students have expressed a desire to change their online habits, citing their parents as their greatest source for setting boundaries and holding them accountable. Our kids need and want our help navigating their online interactions! Some tips and resources for promoting healthy media choices come from WiredHuman.org. Healthy habits can start small. Be encouraged by implementing a new one this week.
Please contact any one of us with questions or concerns about your child’s social, emotional, or mental health during the school year. We’ll be there for you!

7th Grade
MATH:
We are finishing up our Proportional Relationships unit. Be on the lookout this week for their purple study guide to review. Our next unit is applying proportional relationships including percentages.
ADVANCED MATH:
We just finished up our systems of equations unit. In the next 2 weeks we will be reviewing some 7th grade standards in preparation of IAR testing after spring break.
LITERACY:
Students in blocks are continuing to explore perception and reality in Collection Two. In singles, students are wrapping up Collection Four where they explored space and ocean exploration. They may have even started Collection Six where they will learn about workplace disasters and the contributions they made to laws and policies.
DUAL LITERACY:.
We are reading a novel and discussing principal and secondary characters, along with the story arc. After that, we will read different articles related to one of the story’s themes, so we’ll have the opportunity to discuss fiction vs nonfiction literacy.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We have finished studying our government under our first Constitution, the Articles of Confederation. We also studied the reasons it failed and we had to write the new Constitution. The next month or so we will spend studying the U.S. Constitution. We will first start off with an inquiry. “How does the Constitution protect against tyranny?” Then we will study the structure of our government and how all the parts work.
DUAL SOCIAL STUDIES:
We have finished learning about the Franco Indian War to develop background knowledge for the American Revolution. We are learning about how Capital Washington became the General Washington for the Independence of the 13 colonies. We are working on answering the essential questions: What Influence did the French and Indian War have on the development of the War Revolutions? Then we are starting to study the American Revolution that led into the creation of the United States.
SCIENCE:
The students have been working hard learning about DNA. They are learning about the parts, how it replicates, and a few of the scientists that helped us understand DNA better. They also are learning about the different mutations that can occur when DNA replicates. All this is leading to students deciding if genetically engineered organisms are good or bad.
