Halfway Done with Quarter One

Good Morning Rombout Community,

Get ready for a jam-packed edition of the Monday Message!

It's hard to believe, but the first five-week progress reports will be going out at the end of this week, as the 5-week mark ended this past Friday 10/14. This is a great time to see how students are adjusting to the start of the school year and where they stand academically. This is also a great time for students to check in with their teachers if they are in need of any extra help or support. There is a document below (and on the website) which lists times teachers are available for extra help.

On the website, you will also find a document with our RMS Clubs, the club advisors, and their tentative meeting times/days. Click on the About Us tab on the RMS website and you will see the link to the clubs. The document is also below.

Reminder that the Monday Message is a bi-weekly newsletter providing information to the school community on all that is going on! For daily updates, check out the RMS Website for the posting of the daily announcements.

Lastly, we encourage you to follow our Instagram (@RomboutMS) and Twitter (@RomboutMS) pages. Here, you can see pictures of what is happening in school and other important, fun, or cool information.

Have a great week ahead!

RMS Spirit Week was a Success!

Last week, we had Spirit Week here at Rombout. Planned by our amazing Student Council led by Advisors Ms. Gonzalez and Ms. K., we had four days of school spirit: Pajama Day, Wacky Wednesday, Blue/Gold Day (See next post), and a Pink Out Day for Breast Cancer Awareness! Good times!

RMS Holds First Pep Rally Since 2019

This past Thursday, Student Council hosted our first Pep Rally since 2019. The gymnasium was packed and LOUD. Such a great feeling for our kids to be all together, cheering on our classmates! We started off the Pep Rally with music from our Band, then a performance by our Modified Cheerleaders, followed by an introduction to all of our Fall Sports Teams! We then had games that students signed up for like a Relay Race, Musical Chairs, and a Free Throw Shooting Competition, where both students and teachers were pied in the face. Mr. Alzate did a great job as our "MC."

The Modified Football team then won their homecoming game over Monticello, 25-0 that evening, with fantastic support from our cheerleaders!

It was a great day!

World Language Club's Pulsera Project!

Over the next two weeks our school will be partnering with The Pulsera Project, a fair trade nonprofit organization that seeks to empower, inspire, and educate people in Central America and the U.S. The Pulsera Project provides sustainable, well-paying work opportunities for artisans in Nicaragua and Guatemala, most of whom make colorful hand-woven bracelets, or “pulseras” in Spanish. The project then creates a market for their artwork by partnering with schools across the U.S.

Pulseras will be sold for $7 here in our school, and the proceeds will be invested in a wide range of social impact programs in Nicaragua & Guatemala, including:

*Sustained employment for nearly 200 artists

*Secondary education programs

* University scholarships for artisans and their families

*Healthcare for artisans and their families

*A housing program for artisans and their families

*Environmental initiatives

*Support for other social enterprises doing impactful work in these countries

We hope this will be a highlight of the school year as students engage with the beauty of Latin American culture while lending support to these skilled artisans and their communities!

Questions? See/contact Ms. DeCandia!

RMS 8th Graders went to a Youth Health Rally @ Dutchess Stadium

This past Thursday, October 13th, RMS 8th grade students went to a Youth Health Rally at Dutchess Stadium. The rally was hosted by CAPE of Dutchess County and the Dutchess County Government and was a completely free event for all 8th grade students in the county. I am proud to say that RMS had the most attendees out of all of the schools with over 180 students! Awesome job RMS.

The rally took place on the turf field of the stadium and had various vendors from around our area which gave our students plenty of resources on all aspects of health. Some of the vendors included: the NYS Troopers with a demo on seatbelt safety, Dutchess County Sheriff's Office with the K9 unit and resource tables from i2Evolve Self-Expression/Relaxation from Red Hook, Mid-Hudson Regional Addiction Resource Center, Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community Health, the Mental Health America Council of Dutchess County, The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie, The Millbrook Library, The Tobacco Free Action Communities of Ulster, Dutchess, and Sullivan Counties, River Haven, the US Army, a cool interactive Karate Booth, a impairment Goggles interactive booth, and the K104 Photo Booth! There were also guest speakers, including Senator Sue Serino!

All students received a bag of resources and they were able to take resources from all the tables. Also, lunch was included!

Thank you to the 8th Grade Teacher Chaperones and to our Health Teacher Ms. Modica for planning the event!
