Photos from "CAKE, CASH & COMMUNITY"

Last week Friday we had a school-wide event where students learned life-changing information about the Power of You program which offers them two free years of college! At this event we announced Gordon Parks's POWER OF YOU DAY. Then we all participated in a community building activity called "Name Game" where students and teachers will for collaborative teams (teams of 5 students). We also had a raffle drawing for Starbucks gift cards. Finally, in the third segment of the event teachers served students our special P.O.Y. cake and chilled with students.

Special thanks to Target & Minneapolis College for sponsoring the event. Enjoy the photos!

EXAMPLES OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH IN GPHS CLASSES

African American Poetry Unit in GPHS English Language Arts Classes

GPHS ELA teacher Jamie Hagg will focus on African American Poetry during the month of February. In previous years, students from Mr. Hagg's class and others have even created school wide poetry projects.

Our namesake Gordon Parks published numerous books of poetry during his life, but his last book "Eyes With Winged Thoughts" was the one that many critics considered his best. Learn more here.

HEADS UP FOR THE GPHS COLLEGE & RESOURCE FAIR

The GPHS College and Resource Fair is February 28, 2023. Our counseling department brings in dozens of local colleges and career organizations right to GPHS so that students can make connections and prepare for their future. Mark your calendars for 2/28/23
