Graduation Project News
This week the seniors are working on their practice presentations. In the past the seniors were assigned a homeroom to present in. Since we do not go to homeroom I am telling the students to present to someone they are comfortable with. They can present during Power Hour, after school, during your planning period, or during a class if you are willing to do that. Please give them feedback on their PowerPoint (spelling errors, the slides are hard to read, etc). If they do not present for 5 minutes they will automatically have to practice again so please keep time. Only students that have a labeled rubric should be presenting. Otherwise they have not passed the other components yet. Please do not print a rubric for them. If you have any questions please let me know.
Thank you!

IT Updates
It appears that all the computers coming out of repair need Flash loaded to them. The county office is aware of this problem and they are working on the issue.
Good Afternoon,
As some of you may know I have been quite busy trying to get the 1:1's reimaged due to the virus. While doing this task, I am trying to get to all of the IT Request Forms done as soon as I can. If you have filled out an IT Request Form for something PLEASE do not fill out another one for the same thing. It doesn't get it done any faster and it just wastes paper. I am aware of you that need software installed. I have let the appropriate people know what you/we are in need of. Right now my hands are tied as to what can be installed. I am asking that you please be patient as I am one person trying to handle staff member and student needs at the same time.
Those of you requesting software installation please see the below requirements.
- You must fill out a software request form. (Located on the Onslow County Schools website) Form must be sent to the CO along with discs and license.
- Software MUST be current curriculum.
- You have to actually be using the textbooks or virtual textbook.
- You can NOT use the program if it came for books from another school.
Thank you,
Leigh
Hi Everyone,
Quick update on the virus situation:
We have successfully stopped the spread of the virus, but much work remains to clean those machines that have been impacted. Teams of technicians are working extended hours to image all Tier I staff laptops. Kudos to all our Technicians who are working tirelessly to remedy the effects of this event!! Principals and Instructional Technology Facilitators will be given advance notice as to when the technicians will be at a specific school for imaging.
If you have not done so already, please begin backing up any files on your computer to your OneDrive account.
All files stored on your laptop and not backed up to OneDrive will be lost during the imaging process. The priorities of the work being done by the technicians are as follows:
- All staff laptops;
- Known infected student laptops;
- Labs and classroom desktop computers;
- Remainder of student laptops.
Also, to close one remaining potential security loophole, the use of flash drives by teachers will be disabled beginning January 1, 2018. Any necessary files that you have stored on flash drives should be copied to OneDrive.
The ability for students to connect to home networks will remain disabled until we have been able to image all known-infected student devices. We will enable that feature just as quickly as we can once those devices have been re-imaged. We will continue to update you as new information becomes available. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Jeff

Good morning everyone,
As you begin week three of College Application Month, I am sending the link to a great tool that will help your students and their parents understand and complete the FAFSA. It can be played in classes, the computer lab/media center, and posted on your school’s website for easy access. I find that the video makes the FAFSA completion process much less intimidating through its step-by-step instructions and explanations. I hope you find it helpful and welcome your feedback.

I met many of you at last week’s NCSCA conference and it was wonderful putting a face with an email! You all are doing wonderful work in spite of facing many challenges on a daily basis.
I hope you all enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.
Best regards,
Marcia

Athletic News
The 3rd Annual EDHS/RHS golf tournament was another monumental success. After final accounting, each school received $6200 for their respective golf programs. The money is used to purchase equipment and uniforms, pay travel expenses, and buy end-of-season awards for our banquet. Additionally, a scholarship is funded with the proceeds. Thank you to all RHS staff who participated in the raffle. Also, special thanks to Julie Williford for help with accounting; Tiffany Rhodes for helping supply BETA volunteers; Ken Brown for helping me make the booklets; Beth Ridge Brown for helping at the event; Mike Kelly, Jason Spruill, and Garrett Smith for help with securing items needed. We look forward to next year.
