The Beehive Bulletin
York Avenue Family Newsletter - 12/12/21
Message from Mrs. Richardson
Dear York Avenue Families,
I hope your weekend is going well! Thank you to all of our families who helped us participate in inclusive schools week! Students came dressed proudly in each day's theme. Thank you for working with us to show students that all are accepted at York and we celebrate our differences!. Below are a few pictures.
As the temperatures drop consistently, we observe a "Real Feel" protocol for recess with students. If the temperature is below 32 degrees or there is rain, snow, or ice outside, students will have indoor recess. Please be sure they have coats, hats, and gloves.
Our student council food drive for Manna on Main St. continues through 12/17. Our theme is "Bottles, Boxes and Bags". Please see the flyer here.
Warmly,
Dipa Richardson
Principal

NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION’S READ ACROSS AMERICA
This is a year-round program that focuses on motivating children to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone and for everyone.
Each month, books are recommended for elementary, middle grades and young adults around a theme. The titles featured include books that students can see themselves reflected in, as well as books that allow readers to see a world or a character that might be different than them.

Counselor's Corner
This time of year can be stressful in lots of different ways. As the season is underway, I wanted to take a moment and focus on YOU. Most of the time, we are so focused on our children, and doing what we can to support them. But, it is equally important to remember that our children look to us and model our behavior. If we can treat ourselves the way we want our children to treat themselves and others (with kindness and self-compassion) they are more likely to follow suit.
Below is a quick article to serve as a reminder to check in on yourself and give yourself some grace. (Remember: you have to secure your life jacket before you can help your loved ones!)
Anxiety and Being Kind to Yourself
Take care.
