February News
Principal's Message
Hello East Primary Families,
Well here we are, it is the end of February and over the next week we will be wrapping up the 2nd trimester. In an effort to prepare for report cards there will be additional testing. This can cause stress which may result in an increase of misbehaviors. Please keep this in mind . If you notice changes in behavior, help your child to understand it is okay to feel stress, learning can be hard, they can do hard things. Encourage them to do their best and we will be proud of their efforts and growth. If they are struggling these assessments will also help us identify where they need additional help.
Friday, March 1st, teachers will be preparing for conferences, so there will be no school. Teacher's recently sent information out about signing up for Parent/Teacher conferences. Conferences will be held on Mar 7 & 8, there will be no school for East Primary students on these days. If you need further assistance with scheduling a conference please contact the office.
As we look ahead I would like to make sure you are aware that the week of March 4th will be a busy week. We will be celebrating Read Across America week by showing our school spirit (see dress up days listed below) and we will also be kicking off our school wide reading event! Every family will receive a free copy of the book Mr. Popper's Penguins by Florence Atwater and Richard Atwater. One child from each family will receive a copy of the book to take home on February 29th. Along with the book, you will receive a reading schedule so you can read along at home. Generally, the reading will take about 20 minutes each night. We are looking forward to our 3rd year of this fun communitywide reading event. Happy Reading!
Reminder: East Primary is excited to be offering yearbooks again this year. To purchase and customize your yearbook, go to https://www.treering.com/purchase?PassCode=1016185750264095, the price is $20.00 and the deadline for customizing the yearbook is April 22, 2024.

Conscious Discipline for Families
March's Conscious Discipline for Families will focus on creating a wish well.
For our last session, we will be discussing Empathy, Choices, and Consequences. We’ve given our children the tools to be assertive, now it’s time to help them set healthy boundaries by modeling that behavior. We will utilize the Power of Acceptance in defining the things we cannot change and how we can respond in a healthy way when those times occur. We will help our children accept upset as a brief moment in life and help them find the productive choices they do have in those moments.
Join us Monday, March 11th 5:30-7:15pm. Dinner and childcare will be provided.
Follow this link https://forms.office.com/r/nmDvpif8vyto sign up. Contact Shanna McMahan, Family Liaison, directly at 541-459-2912 email Shanna.McMahan@sutherlin.k12.or.us with any questions.
