Grizzly Gazette: December 2020
News you can use from Dena'ina Elementary School
Dear Dena'ina Families,
The first half of the year is quickly coming to a close. When we opened in August we weren't sure what the year would look, but between the efforts of our district leadership, public health, school staff and all of our families, school for us has been open much more than we anticipated. Through all the changes, our staff has been working diligently to continue providing a safe environment and keeping the focus on learning.
Our winter benchmark testing has started this week with AIMSWeb in grades K-3. This quick test is a measurement of reading fluency and/or pre-reading skills. MAP testing begins next week for all grades. The MAP Family Report will be sent home with your student before winter break begins. We anticipate that for some students, academic gains may not be where they would typically be at by this time of year given a number of factors at play. Teachers meet with their teams weekly or biweekly to examine student growth and plan for meeting each individual's needs.
From our Grizzly Family to yours, we wish you a safe, healthy and happy holiday season!
