OMS 7A News
Welcome to OMS Mini-School 7A
Ms. Alexander 7A Historical Literacy
It has been a great first week in room 700! I have enjoyed getting to know your students. We will dive into the curriculum starting Tuesday.
Supplies Needed:
2 Folders (2 Pocket with Prongs)
Pencils
Notebook Paper
Glue sticks
Skinny Black Dry Erase Markers
Red ink pen
Small personal pencil sharpener
Color pencils
Markers
Lined Note-cards
All students need to have at least one folder with prongs & two pockets. We will use one for this semester and another in the spring semester. Students should bring a pencil every day to class. The remainder of the supplies are things they can use in all classes. I suggest they have a pencil pouch where they keep their red pen, note-cards, glue sticks and colors. If you have any questions please see me on Monday Night at Open House or email AlexanderH@rcschools.net.
I would like to give shout outs to Omar Calhan, Anslie Hopkins, Aloni Villa, Alyana Frazier, Emily Edwards and Kyle Maniphonh for the great work in class this week.
Ms. Heim 7A Language Arts
We got off to an amazing start in 7th grade ELA this week!! I am looking forward to meeting you at Open House Monday night. I hope you are able to make it!
Please make sure that your child has a three prong folder and a composition book for my class. I would like them to have these by Wednesday of this week. We will be starting our routines next week along with IReady diagnostic testing on our classroom laptops.
We have been going over procedures and expectations both school-wide and my classroom. Ask your child about our ELA class motto for the year “Always My Best.”
We are going to have an amazing year!
Love,
Ms. Heim

Dear Parents,
The first week has been a wonderful success and I have loved getting to know your children. We spent the past few days learning what is expected in the classroom and in Oakland Middle School.
Next week we will be taking the I-Ready diagnostic test on Monday and Tuesday to see where everyone is at. The remainder of the week will be spent learning how to add and subtract negative numbers. The only material your children will need to be successful in my classroom is a composition book.
I look forward to meeting you at the open house and please don't hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Amanda Vanus

Ms. Spintzyk "Spin" 7A Science
Each class came up with a set of expectations for their class period. I am quite impressed at some of them. Every class had an expectation on being kind, and respecting each other.
This week we will begin our science curriculum. We will be diving into the engineering design process and science lab procedures.
Next week we will begin CHEMISTRY. This is a brand new section to 7th grade science.
Our science classroom is a blended learning environment. I teach using the station rotation, small group model. We use technology every day in our groups, and instead of lecturing and teaching whole group, I teach with smaller group as the class is rotating in and out of hands on activities.
In order for us to begin I MUST have the technology user agreement that was sent home on Wednesday. This agreement was on a brightly colored sheet of paper. We have received 78 back so far. Thank you so much!!
I am attaching the form to this email just in case your student's backpack eats forms like my son's used to!!
Because we are blended learning, their interactive notebooks are kept online. I do not require a whole lot of supplies. The only they will need, to be kept in the classroom, is one pack of paper and one box of pencils.
I do keep an Amazon wish list updated. This list is full of items that we need to run our classroom. Lots of fun items for our labs. CLICK HERE for the link to that wish list.
7th Grade Open House
We cannot wait to meet everyone at Open House Monday, August 13th at 5:30. You will report to your student's first period class. After a brief video from our principal, Mrs. Ruis, your 1st period teacher will go over some expectations for OMS. Afterwards you will be able to rotate around to all their other teachers.
We will also have our sports and performing arts set up in the main hallway so you can receive more info there about the activities we offer at OMS.

House Points
Animo (Courage)
Honoris (Honor)
Viribus (Strength)
The student earn points in several ways:
* Any student who is caught doing something good will earn 20 points for their house.
*Wearing house colors on Wednesdays. This must be a main piece of clothing. A shirt, hoodie, jacket, pants, shorts, skirt, of dress. Shoes and jewelry do not count.
Animo House colors are maroon and gold
Honoris House colors are black and yellow
Viribus House colors are navy and gold
Wearing house colors will earn 1 point per student awarded to their house. If 100% of students in their SEL/Lunch class wear house colors they are awarded a bonus 20 points.
*Atteding OMS events. Such as a sporting event or a performing arts event. Each student that attends an after school event will be awarded 10 points towards their house.
*School spirit. There will be a spirit stick house challenge at every pep rally. The winning house will be awarded 50 points.
*Having perfect attendance during the week of any benchmark assessment will earn 20 points per student to their house.
*Each teacher has 10 discretionary points they can use to award points in their classrooms per quarter.
Each quarter the winning house gets a very special celebration and bragging rights.
The House Masters for each house are
Mrs. Spin - Animo House
Mrs. Alford - Honoris House
Mrs. Norris - Viribus House
Mrs. Alford and Mrs. Norris will be selling house spirit wear. These shirts are $10 and they will be selling those right as you come in the school. If your student does not know their house, Mrs. Alford can look it up for you!!! These are on sale while supplies last.
We will have new house shirt order forms available in about 3 weeks; however, these shirts will not be at the sale price of $10.
We will have a short sleeve, long sleeve, and hoodie option for this year.
