Hawk Update 5/8/2020

In these changing times, one challenge we face as parents is managing our child's access to online apps and monitoring interactions they may be having on social media sites. I believe the information on parental controls and social media safe site tips to be important, and there are helpful links addressing screen time limits, responsible online behavior, and ways to keep tabs on what your children are doing on their cell phones. Additionally, I included other links that are specific to Social Media Apps - what parents need to know, and how to keep children safe.

I strongly encourage you to visit the Common Sense Media site - it contains helpful and important information about Social Media Apps, other apps, reviews of books and movies, and information broken down into age-ranges of children. It is a valuable tool for parents of children navigating the e-world in this challenging time. I hope you find it helpful (and you may even learn some new lingo to impress your tween)!

Kindergarten/New Student Registration

Children are eligible for kindergarten if they turn five years old on or before September 1, 2020. However, children who turn five between September 1 and December 1, 2020 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten if their parents submit a waiver form.

To register, parents must supply:

  • An original birth certificate or certified copy, with raised seal, issued by the clerk of the county where your child was born or the health department of the state of birth;
  • Your child's health immunization record; including vision and hearing screenings. Be sure to schedule immunization updates early as these appointments are often limited;
  • Photo I.D. (Driver's license or work photo I.D.)
  • Proof of residency, such as property tax bill, closing papers or lease agreement. Please know that we are not able to accept utility bills.

We are working from home during the Governor's stay-at-home order. You may submit completed kindergarten registration forms and documents electronically to: kim.susalla@uticak12.org. Once we are back in the office, we will contact you to finalize your child's registration.

The district offers a Schools of Choice program for parents in Macomb and neighboring counties. Applications for this option are available online.

Student Grades on PowerSchool - Participate to Ensure Grade Promotion

The Unified Classroom/PowerSchool parent portal is open for viewing student progress and grades. Parents will see grades from January 12 through the current date (and then through the end of the school year on June 12). Grades for assignments will be calculated for the final June progress report giving Credit or No Credit in the areas of: Reading, Written Communication, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Please note that Spelling will not be reported as a grade. As we continue with our online learning, the expectation is for every student to actively participate using the Schoology platform through the end of this school year, attendance (logging in, completing and submitting assignments) will be calculated, and participation in online learning assignments will help ensure Credit is given and students are promoted to the next grade level in the Fall.
