Say No to Cyberbullying
Cyber bullying is just one of the many forms of bullying. It is when anyone under the age of eighteen is "threatened, humiliated, harassed" through the use of technology (www. stompoutbullying.org). With the increase in social media due to advances in technology, cyber bullying is becoming more and more prevalent. Statistics show that over fifty percent of adolescents and teens have been bullied online and just as many do not tell their parents when they have been cyber bullied. Girls are more likely than boys to be involved in cyber bullying, however, boys are more likely to be threatened by cyber bullies than girls.
A couple of things that can be done to prevent cyber bullying are encouraging teens to tell an adult if cyber bullying is occurring and reminding teens never to share passwords or personal information except to a parent. Further, adults should talk to teens about cyber bullying and explain the consequences that it can have.
