Parent/Teacher Conferences

It's hard to believe that we're almost 3/4 of the way through our school year. With that said, you should have received information about our upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences during the evenings of Thursday, March 5 and Tuesday, March 10. While our teachers do their best to accommodate everyone, they do so based on the order that requests come back to them. If you are requesting a conference, I encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

P.R.O.U.D. Winners

Seven amazing students were chosen as school leaders for the month of January. Each of the students was nominated by a staff member for demonstrating one of the seven habits described in the book The Leader in Me by Stephen R. Covey, and in the series of books titled The Seven Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. Each student demonstrated what a highly effective leader looks like and was recognized during the February 19, 2020 PTO meeting. During the meeting, the selected students received a leadership T-shirt, a certificate, and a charm. Congratulations to the following students: Janae J., Ben A., Selena K., Zamirah H., Jonas W., Ryann C., and Gavin T.

Penny Wars

Our first ever Penny Wars was very successful. Your children had fun donating coins and bills to raise their point count and lower the points for other grade levels. First grade won! Thanks to Darcie Adams and the rest of the PTO for helping us raise over $1500.00.

Spring Break

On behalf of the entire staff, we wish all of our families a relaxing week during our upcoming Spring Break, March 23-27, 2020, and we'll look forward to having students back in the building on Monday, March 30, 2020.

SEL is the process through which children and adults apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. These are skill sets that support college and career readiness and promote success in life. If you are looking for additional information you can use the following link, https://www.panoramaed.com/

Fight Flu First to Prevent Coronavirus

Dear Parents,

As more information is released from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) about the Coronavirus and its potential impact on our school community, we want you to be aware that we are staying up-to-date on the latest information and we’re reviewing all of our public safety plans. Prevention of the spread of disease in our school community is an initiative we work on daily in all of our Pickerington Schools. We need the help of our students, families and staff to continue in this effort.

We know an outbreak in our region could impact schools, so we are preparing for many what-if scenarios to minimize disruption while keeping students and staff safe. In the meantime, our school nurses are educated on the signs and symptoms of the coronavirus—many of which are similar to the flu. We encourage you to visit the CDC website to learn more about prevention and treatment.

Just as with other illnesses, we are asking you to do your part to help prevent the spread of disease. The CDC recommends these everyday preventive steps:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick. This is worth repeating…PLEASE stay home when you’re sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

We are committed to the health and safety of our community and we will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.

i-Ready Scores Available in Infinite Campus Parent Portal

Parents can view their student's i-Ready Benchmark Assessment Scores in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal under the Assessments Tab (which is found by clicking "more" on the left-hand menu). For students in grades K-1 the score reported is a scaled score. For students in grades 2-8 both the scaled score and the national percentile are reported. The average range for national percentiles falls between the 30th and 70th percentile. Students who score above the 95th percentile are considered gifted in that content area according to the State of Ohio. For more information about your student's i-Ready program in the classroom, please contact their subject area teacher for math or reading. For more information about gifted services please visit the PLSD Gifted Website at http//www.picxkerington.k12.oh.us/gifted-services/.
