26 Students and Teachers Win Bracket Challenge!

A few weeks ago I challenged our students and teachers to fill out a better bracket than me. Once the final horn sounded, I owed 26 of you ice cream. Great job!

I handed out FREE ICE CREAM cards earlier this week and know that several students (and teachers) have already turned them in.

I also promised a grand prize for the winners of each department. Here they are:

Elementary- Jett (1st grade)

Middle School- Everlyne (6th grade)

High School- Megan (11th grade)

These students have earned breakfast for their entire class!

I will provide breakfast for the 8th grade class on Tuesday, the 1st grade class on Wednesday, and the 11th grade class on Thursday of next week. Congratulations!

The bracket challenge was a lot of fun for me and I look forward to doing better next year!

What happens when I lose?

I like to win. You know who loses? Losers. I'm not a loser.

...and then sometimes I lose...to 26 people.

There are a lot of reasons that I don't enjoy losing:

When someone beats me in a test of skill, my pride is hurt.

When someone bests me in a test of mind, I feel ignorant.

When someone else wins a game of chance, I feel jealous because I missed an opportunity.

I'm sure the Apostle Paul knew this human tendency when he wrote "Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep" in Romans 12:15.

The sad truth is that I'm usually pretty good about feeling empathy and compassion for those who are hurting. It's a lot harder for me to naturally feel joy for others without jealousy or pride, but that's a Christlike attitude--leaving my own desires behind and being genuinely excited for the successes of others.
