Indiana Radon Poster Contest
We need your student’s help explaining science through art! The 2022 Indiana Radon Poster Contest is here! This is a fun, educational, and potential prize-winning opportunity for our students.
Radon is an odorless, colorless, tasteless gas that is produced by naturally decaying uranium in the soil and can be drawn into homes through cracks in the foundation. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. Approximately 1 in 3 homes tested have radon levels at or above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L in Indiana.
In order to spread the message about radon’s health hazards, the American Lung Association is calling on Indiana students age 9-14 to create a radon poster that will increase public awareness of radon gas and encourage people to test their homes.
If you choose to participate, please send your posters to central office Attn: Bob Rice by March 4. I will collect all submissions and send them to the American Lung Association by the March 18 deadline.
Full Contest details and additional radon information is available on the contest website at: lung.org/radon

R.A.V.E Reviews!
Do you know an employee who makes HSE Schools a better place for others?
Do you know someone who exemplifies the Mission of HSE Schools?
Have you observed an employee who goes above and beyond their job responsibilities/duties to make a difference?
These individuals deserve a “R.A.V.E Review.”
We recognize and appreciate that Hamilton Southeastern Schools has some of the most talented and dedicated employees. Every HSE staff member has an important role, responsibility and stake in the safety, security, and success of our students.
The goal of the R.A.V.E (Recognizing All Valuable Employees) Review is to identify and honor those, in their contributions and service to HSE Schools, exemplify our mission.
Mission Statement
Hamilton Southeastern Schools, as a forward-thinking school district, provides excellence in education and opportunities to ensure the success of each and every student, to become a responsible citizen and to positively influence an ever-changing world community.
Nomination Rules:
Staff, students, and community members can nominate HSE employees. All staff are eligible for nomination. To submit a R.A.V.E Review, fill out a quick and easy online form and share why the individual is a 5-Star employee.
All recipients will receive a R.A.V.E Review window cling to proudly display their nomination in their workspace (see attached picture), a certificate and recognition letter with their review. One employee will be selected in a random drawing by the Hamilton Southeastern Education Foundation for a $100 gift card each month!
Please note, employees can be recognized multiple times and will receive their reviews, but they will not be eligible for more than one window cling or certificate. In addition, recipients are only eligible to win the HSEF prize drawing once per school year.
To locate the R.A.V.E Review submission form:
1. The button is on the front page of the district’s website at the very bottom.
2. On the ‘Communications’ page under Meet HSE.
3. On the ‘Employee’ page located at the top of any district/school webpage.
RAVE Review Nomination Examples:
Abby Johnson, 1st Grade Teacher
“Mrs. Johnson is always sharing resources, teaching me how to use technology effectively and creatively, and creating amazing learning opportunities together. As a newer employee, I appreciate that she has gone above and beyond her class time to help me make my lessons more engaging for my students. She is a great teaching partner. We are stronger together!”
Sharon Smith, Office Staff
“Sharon has a deep passion for serving students. You will see Sharon greeting each student by name every morning and encouraging students to keep trying and attending school when it is tough. For the past 24 years, Sharon has loved her job and watching students continue to grow into the kind and amazing people they were meant to be. She always comes to work with a great attitude and makes coming to work an uplifting place to be. I love working with her!”
Dawn Gamble, Food Services
“Ms. Dawn has gone above and beyond for students, ensuring they have high-quality nutritious meals every day, and she knows every single one by name which makes them feel special. It has been tough with having a staffing shortage. Dawn must work long hours, but she does so for the love of the kids. The students know their meals were made by a friendly and caring person every day.”
