Culture Introduction

Culture is beliefs, traditions, customs, and opinions of a group of people. Culture is a specific group of people who share the same ideas and taste in clothing, music, and values. Culture impacts every person in a civilization. Civilizations today have culture because of the stories, religion and traditions were passed down from generation to generation. Culture is important because it impacts a civilization. The four River Valley Civilizations, in particular

China, were greatly impacted by culture in five ways. First, religion impacts China because religion and religious leaders had control and took over most of the daily life activities. In addition, China was impacted by their writing system. Writing allowed the people to keep records, and pay taxes. Next, China was impacted by architecture because it allowed the people to become more educated in math, science and engineering. China was also impacted by innovations because it changed the way people were classified in the social classes and impacted the creation of more jobs. Lastly, China was impacted by achievements because these achievements allowed the people to develop more advanced technology and military systems. The culture developments during the River Valley civilizations made the largest impact on the people of China.

Religion

  • The Chinese people believed in many gods .There were the gods of the river, rain, earth, and mountains.

  • The Chinese people worshipped and believed in dragons but not the dragons that breathe fire but they believed in dragons that would grant them wishes and that the dragon had magical powers.

  • The Chinese go to temples the names of those temples were Buddhist, Taoist, Islamic Mosques, and Confucius.

  • They believed in the after world which they buried the king with the terracotta army which were to defend him in the afterworld from the evil who have passed away.

  • The Chinese believed that fireworks scared away the evil souls they thought of this because the huge sound that it would make when it burst in the sky.

  • They celebrated to honor their ancestors they would wave a kite around and throw up chinese lanterns because they wanted to show light to their ancestors .

  • Mandate of Heaven, The Chou (who had to convince the people they had the right to rule) invented then told the people that heaven had decided to make them rulers. but only if they were good rulers. If they were selfish, heaven would withdraw support and the chou rule would be over and get a new leader.

In conclusion, China was impacted by culture in five different ways. Culture influenced the country in nearly every aspect of daily life. For example religion impacted China because religion and religious leaders controlled most of the Chinese people’s activities. The second way China was impacted by culture was their writing system. Writing allowed the people to communicate and pay taxes. Another way includes the various forms of architecture because it allowed the people to become more educated in math, science and engineering. Additionally, innovations in modern life were important to Chinese culture because innovations changed the way people were classified in the social classes and impacted the creation of more jobs. Lastly, China’s cultural life improved with achievements such as the development of advanced technology and military systems. That is how China was impacted by culture in five different ways.

Example #1: Silk

  • Silk was made by silkworms. It was a very comfortable material, but very pricey.

  • China was the only place that knew how to make silk, so the other places had no choice but to buy from china for a high price

  • Gunpowder was actually a mistake

  • Gunpowder was also used to make fireworks

  • paper was made from trees that were turned into pulp
