HES List Server Message
October 5, 2017
Hello Holland Elementary Parents,
The arrival of October typically means the start of the quest for Halloween costumes. As a parent, I know that this can be a complex task, as a child's choice of costume can change multiple times before the 31st.
As you begin this quest with your children, I'd like to pass along information about costumes and our Halloween parade and parties. Please remember that costumes incorporating weapons and/or depicting violence (missing body parts, injury, or blood) are not appropriate to bring to school. Additionally, we are strongly discouraging clown costumes.
Below is a link to the information regarding the HES Halloween Parade which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 31st at 2:30 pm. In the event that weather requires that the students parade inside, we will inform the community early in the day via list server message and post any changes on the HES home page. Please note that the parking lot will be blocked off at 2:20 pm that afternoon so we do not have moving traffic with parading students.

Annual Holland Harvest Night and Trunk-or-Treat
When: Friday, October 27th
- Set up starts at 5:00 PM
- Treating begins at 6:00 PM
- Spooky Hallway and inside games begin at 6:30 PM
Where: Holland Elementary School
Mark your calendar! Children of all ages are invited to trunk-or-treat in the safe environment of the Holland elementary parking lot. Please tell your friends! For those new to this event, it is a child-friendly, Halloween-themed tailgate party! Decorate your trunks as simple or as elaborate as you choose! Just pop open the trunk of your car and make it look festive. Then get ready for the “Trunk-or-Treaters” to arrive. They are just like Trick-or-Treaters but instead of ringing your doorbell at home, they are going to stop by your trunk looking for a treat. After trunk or treating, children can walk through the Spooky Hallway, play games, do a craft, or enjoy dinner.
Don’t eat dinner before you arrive! Refreshments will be available! This year we will have pizza and food trucks. Tim’s BBQ truck was hit last year and will be returning! We are in the process of locking in another food truck, perhaps a taco truck. Please contact the PTO if you have a reliable contact.
Parents: We need your help to make this event a success. Families are encouraged to decorate their car trunks. Each family should provide peanut free candy or small treats to hand out to the children. Please look for updates relating to how many kids we anticipate. There will be a prize for the best decorated car. If you prefer to just park and not decorate your car, there is no pressure. Check out Google or Pinterest for some fun ideas. Please RSVP on the PTO Website with number of Trunk-or-Treaters so we can let families know how much candy to bring.
Cost: Instead of tickets, the PTO will be selling wristbands that will allow your child to participate in all events. The bands will cost $20. Food is sold separately. Families who decorate a car will receive one free wristband.
The Vehicle Registration Form can be found here. Registration will be accepted through October 20th. ALL VEHICLES PARTICIPATING IN TRUNK-OR-TREAT MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED!

Box Tops for Education
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school (in a Ziploc bag or attached to a collection sheet with your child's name and teacher clearly labeled).
Each month, the Box Tops will be tallied and the five students who submit the most Box Tops will earn a pretzel party with me! Additionally, the classroom that submits the most Box Tops will be awarded a treat from the PTO at the end of the marking period!
The first Box Tops winners of the 2017-2018 school year are:
- Jason Lake - 107 Box Tops
- Jack Duffey - 106 Box Tops
- Justin Gontarek - 82 Box Tops
- Frankie Mellon - 67 Box Tops
- Juliette McCrane - 59 Box Tops
Congratulations! These students have won a pretzel party with with me on October 20th!
Please continue to send in your Box Tops! The next contest will end on October 27th.
Last year, we earned $944 for our school from Box Tops and the money will be used by our PTO to enhance our children's school experience (i.e. purchasing chrome books for classrooms, new lunch carts, folders/homework books, etc). This year, our goal is to earn $1200.
Aside from clipping Box Tops, there are other ways to earn Bonus Box Tops for our school.
1) Download the Bonus Box Tops app: When you purchase featured products, just upload your receipt to earn extra $$ for our school
2) ShopRite For My School program: Register your Price Plus card and choose Holland Elementary. That's it! Then when you shop at ShopRite and use your Price Plus card, if you purchased any of the participating products, our school will automatically earn extra Box Tops.
Taking these few steps can really make a huge difference to ensure that we meet our goal. Every little bit counts and helping the PTO helps to enrich our children's education. If there are any questions, please contact Alicia Gontarek.
CRSD Climate Survey
Council Rock School District is surveying staff, parents, and 7-12th grade students to learn about perceptions and experiences relative to school climate. On behalf of the District, I hope you will participate in this optional survey, as your feedback will help us improve programs and services.
The survey, which should take approximately 10-15 minutes to fill out, was developed in collaboration with Hanover Research and will be professionally analyzed by them. You can access/complete it via the hyperlink below. Please know that the responses you provide will be kept anonymous, so you can be open and honest when providing feedback. The survey will remain active until the end of the day on October 13th. Limited numbers of paper copies of our survey are available at the Chancellor Building for anyone who wishes to complete it in a non-electronic format.
Sixth Grade Haunted Hay Ride
